38 Special revolvers

Some folk have smaller hands. This is particularly true of females. Some folk are just not "I like machines" people and these people don't need ANY bells nor whistles. Such folk are well-served with a revolver. Have you ever tried to teach a non-mechanically-inclined person all of the in's and out's of an automatic?! Best not to go there. Best to recommend a revolver. Just sayin'.

Small hands like small-frame revolvers. With a small frame revolver in .38 special shooting light-recoil loads, many people, especially females can readily come up to speed on effective handgun usage. And in the final analysis, for a whole lot of novice shooters, this is what an instructor is seeking to achieve. Actually, truth be told in most cases, ALL you're going to achieve. The goal is to get somebody in a place where they can now effectively and safely defend themself.

They aren't going to be joining any police department anytime soon and they are not going to become a member of some special forces unit -- nope, we're not talking about this at all. They can defend themself with safety and proficiency = Good. They continue to struggle with their firearm = Bad ... even dangerous.

Just got a new pair of Altamont 'Ropers' for my M-67 Smith (delivery time about 2 weeks)...like them more than the Targets from Altamont which are a bit too thin for my liking...Altamont's version of the classic Roper shape has about the same width at the top of the grip as S&W Magnas, while the lower half has a slight palm swell and flare reminiscent the old 'Coke' bottle types from Smith.

That bit of extra width at the top really helps with recoil. Here's the obligatory pic with my #1 Stetson with a 3" brim (sons #1 & 2 who prefer a 4"+ brim, call this the "all crown and no brim" model). YMMv of course. Best Regards, Rod

This threads still going, hmm? Guess I'll show off a few more :)

I believe this one to be unfired.

Kind of an odd bird, don't see too many later model 10's in nickel. By the time 10-8's were in production most people would have bought stainless. I believe this one to be unfired as well.

After looking through this thread, I have decided to issue myself 1000 THR demerit points for posting my model 66 in a 38spl thread.
You are forgiven. For myself, I really consider the K-frame .357s as .38s that just have a slightly longer cylinder and the capability to shoot magnum rounds...which to be honest, I rarely do anymore with my Ks.

I offer my apologies as well as a consolation pic of my newly acquired
Model 10-5.

Your punishment is: Deprime 10,000, 38spl cases using a Lee Loader; lol.

It isn't a 38 special.

As to Taurus quality, I have owned 6 of their offering and still have two. I am no stranger to Taurus guns. None have or did have any problems and the ones I no longer have were traded for something I decided I wanted more. Like any product you pay your money and take your chances. Some people swear by Ford vehicles. Due to past experience if someone gave me one I would immediately sell or trade it for something else. I rely on my experience with any product. Burn me once, I will try again. Burn me twice and I am done.
Exact same sentiment to GM and Mopar. I buy Ford. In 300,000 miles of multiple fords I have put in 1 transmission and I am soon to pay for a cam phaser job. In my last 3 forays into GM I have had nightmares of electrical issues. The 2 mopars I have owned both blew head gaskets well under 100,000 miles each. I will gladly buy Ford, Toyota, or Honda.

Same deal with firearms too. I have never had trouble with anything except for Colt and Ruger. The Colt was a delta elite and the fine folks at the jumping jackass factory told me that they knew a delta elite had an unsupported chamber and they weren’t interested in checking it out for safety purposes. That’s a hard stop for me on spending more money with them. Ruger issues were way back with a couple GP100s with trash barrels. Obviously chattered and horribly inaccurate. Gun shop took care of me and Ruger took care of him, but it soured me on Ruger DA revolvers.
