Hello, new guy here. Been reloading for a while but just started my hand at 380. I know published data is always over and it all depends on gun etc... But it seems that my velocities are low for what I'm doing. If you are using similar components of mine I'd like to know what you're getting and possibly what I'm doing wrong, or is it acceptable.
So,
Everglades 100 grain flat point plated
3.8 grains cfe pistol
Winchester primer
.940 depth
Light taper crimp
With this I'm only getting around 750fps.
Is that normal or am I doing something wrong. I know the depth seems far but with the flat point the suggested min depth of bullet was barely in the case. I found a formula for depth online stating cast length+bullet length - .175. I tried that but still only 750. All cases look good, no bulging, primer flattening or blowout. So it seems pressure is good. But max grains is 4.0 for cfe and I don't really want to go higher and I don't think .2 grains will make a huge jump.
So, what should I try? Try a liitle deeper with bullet, liitle more crimp, or just be happy with it. Only reason I'm asking is most places get mid 900 fps. I'm not aiming for that, it just seems 150-200 fps off is a little much.
Thanks.
Forgot to add, this is out of a Bersa Thunder with a 3.5" barrel.

I usually seat that type of bullet so the bullet base is as deep in the case as a RN bullet. If you use typical RN OALs from loading data, the flat nose projectile will never be seated deeply enough.
As always, start with low charges and work up.

Out of my Kahr P380 (2.53" barrel)
Factory Federal 100gr RN was about 830fps

This was with 4.0gr of CFE-P listed MAX charge
I worked up to this charge, no pressure signs. Kahr is a locked breech pistol
MIxed range brass, S+B SP

Hi Vel: 862
Low Vel: 843
Ave Vel: 853
Ext Spread: 19
Std Dev: 7
380 100gr Xtreme RNFP 4.0 CFE-P OAL .965
Velocity Power Factor Ft/Lbs
862 77.58 148.477
843 75.87 142.004
855 76.95 146.075
850 76.5 144.372
856 77.04 146.417

Good SD+ES for mixed range brass.
Listed MAX charge vel for 4.0 CFE-P and a 100 was 955 but from a longer barrel.

Yeah, I've never worked with flat points before. Just a little scared I guess to not follow the book. Seating deeper and such. I suppose a long as you pay attention to pressure signs you should be good.

Two things, you said .2gr won't make much a difference, incorrect. In such a small case pressures can change greatly with small changes in powder weight.

Secondly, you won't want to crimp too much. The round does headspace on the case mouth so you don't want to overcrimp.
