At noon, on Saturday June 24th, 2006; at the Bear Swamp Archery Complex in Upper Mt. Bethel, PA - there will be a gathering of some of the top blowgun shooters alive today.

"Old Wayne" Wilson of Lynchburg, VA - 10 meter target world record holder, with a score of 198 out of 210 points will be defending his title against all comers. Wayne is a 6 dan Master.

Dave Sustak of Nazareth, PA ranked #2 in the USA and tied for #4 internationally will be challenging the title. In practice, Dave has shot a 204.
Dave is a 6 dan Master. Both Wayne and Dave will be attempting to qualify for the 7 dan ranking by shooting a score of 158 points or higher on the master target face (which is 1/2 the size of the standard face, and a higher scoring system is used). A score of 200 points on the standard face, depending on dart placement, can be a 151 on the Master target.

Bruce Bell of Wayne, NJ - Long distance target world record holder with a shot of 36 meters (about 112 feet) into a 24 cm (about 9 in.) target will be defending his title.

Tinus Els of South Africa, former long distance target world record holder (30 meters) will be attempting to regain his title.

Dr. Amante P. Marinas, Sr. (author of "Panandata: Guide to Sport Blowguns") will be attending the competition this year, along with Joe "Brokenfeather" Darrah and Ken "Che Che Whitecloud" Pearce, members of the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame.

There are a lot of other competitors participating this year, it is expected to be the largets attended competition in the US to date. Last year, in Japan, one competition had 621 blowgunners participating.

We hope that you'll come to Bear Swamp to see what we're all about. We'll have "trick shot" demos set up; we'll be using the archery range Field area for a biathlon style (run and shoot) competition (14 stations, 16 targets with a half mile loop course - a scored and timed event), in addition. There will also be a demonstration of blowgun fishing, using a Nerf football submerged a foot or so underwater as a practice target.

The first Blowgun World Cup Games will be in 2007 in France, and we are trying to have the sport sanctioned as an Olympic event, at least in exhibition, for the 2016 games! (in Philadelphia????)

May your darts always fly true!

I will try and make again. I went the past two years. Nice to see the sport growing. Unfortunately I haven't practiced very much.
