There are the 4 main gun safety rules as set down by Cooper (Gunsite) way back when. I was interested in 4 main tactics rules to compliment the safety rules and wanted some suggestions to weed through and distill into 4 basic ones. Something along the lines of

1. Incoming rounds alway go to your last known address - keep moving
2. You can't miss fast enough - only hits count
3. There is always one more - scan, scan, scan
4.

FWY - The 4 Main Safet Rules

1. All guns are always loaded
2. Never allow your muzzle to cover anything you aren't willing to destroy
3. Keep you finger off the trigger until you are on target
4. Know you target and what's behind it and around it

These have been modified by some schools/instructors to better define the idea, but the above is what I believe Gunsite originally had.

Any suggestions on 4 hard corps tactics rules would be appreciated.

I always thought the first rule of tactics was awarness. If you don't know

what is going on how can you know what to do?

The difference between cover and concealment is a sucking chest wound.

I always liked the advice to use "avoidance and awareness". I do understand that those who carry a badge do not have the luxury of avoiding trouble.

hmmm.... there are many handy rules from attending classes
here are a few from Clint Smith at Thunder Ranch

"You have the rest of your life to solve the problem,
how long your life lasts depends on how well you solve the problem."

The purposes of a handgun is to fight your way back to the
Rifle you never should have put down in the first place.

If you’re not shooting you should be loading; if you’re not loading, you should be moving; if you’re not moving someone’s going to cut off your head and put it on a stick.

Shoot as big a gun as you can shoot accurately.

"When you carry it, no gun is small enough and when you take it out, no gun is large enough."

“If we knew there was gonna be a fight, we would have stayed home!†If we knew we were gonna be in a fight, for our lives, at arms length with weapons, we sure as heck would have brought a rifle, not a pistol.â€

“a pistol [you carry] isn't supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting.â€

The sights are always aligned, you are out of alignment.

“You’re gonna be dead a lot longer than you’re gonna be alive.â€

“If I want to scare ‘em, I’ll put on an ugly mask.â€

“People shoot you, ‘cause they SEE you.â€

‘it all depends on whose ox is getting gored. If it’s my wife and kids [being held hostage] I want someone with the will and the skill, not some punk pogue.’

If you know there’s gonna be a fight, bring a rifle. In fact, you may want to bring some friends with rifles.

Would you like to go on record that 6 shots, fired at you from 10ft, using, say, plus P 9mm's, flame and blast passing within inches of you, are not going to effect your ability to hit the chest, much less the head, of your attacker? I don't think so.

Would you like to go on record that being hit twice in the chest with 45acp is not going to affect your ability to return fire? I don't thinks so.

Smoke - can't miss fast enough

suppressed,

You are right. I am going to stop practicing marksmanship right away, and just work on pulling the trigger as fast as I can.

THE FASTEST MISSES WIN!!!!

With Good armor

In the 1.5 seconds it will take you to react, make a ccw belt draw and hit my chest twice, I can easily have fired 5 misses and still hit your chest.

So do you wear "good armor" everywhere you go? 24 hours a day? Being hit witha round and being able to remain stnading is different than being able to function. In your 1.5 seconds while these rounds are thumping your chest, you have to be drawing, and firing, not waiting for the shots to quit.

Even if I was wearing your "good armor" as soon as the first round hit my chest I'd probably be pissing myself and wondering if the armor stopped it.

You would also have to put your hands and weapon in the line of fire to return shots.

Sillyness.

I don't know if I agree with tactic #1: keep moving. If I have good cover and concealment and my option to keep moving is to abandon cover, I'd probably stay put.
