I am looking for a rig for just that type of sidearm. Found two, an OWB, and an IWB, both by Master's Leather. When I can afford them, I'll let you know which works better.
The ITP Utrux holster by Hoffners is NOT a good holster. It can be fixed.
The problem is both the straps are on the front of the holster and the kydex grips the trigger guard VERY tightly. The result is you MUST draw it perfectly upward or it will stick. Grabbing on with two hands and pulling as hard as you can will not help
The solution: move the strap that's toward the middle to just below the rear screw. This requires drilling one hole, widening it a bit, and placing the strap there. I have had no problems with the holster since I fixed it.
Thanks for the responses. I'm planning on carrying a 4" revolver and I do have a few choices with IWB but haven't really made up my mind yet.
Is it much easier to carry OWB while driving? Also, since a revolver plus the holster will be about two inches thick, is it pretty difficult to conceal the OWB bulge? What do you all do about your natural arm placement to the side of your body? I'm also assuming you all are wearing high-rise OWB holsters.
Also, does the revolver barrel bother you any more than say, the thickness of an autoloader?
Cool, thinking about carrying a Security Six. DeSantis doesn't have a Security Six listed on their site for that holster, but they have bigger guns listed like the GP100. Might just call them or find out. But I am leaning towards a Simply Rugged holster.
What advantages and disadvantages do you have carrying high-rise?
is that you can wear a normal looking cover garment. You will have easier access to your back pocket, and when you sit down, you won't get jabbed in the butt by your muzzle.
The disadvantage is that you now will have a revolver grip about 4" below your armpit. This isn't all that bad for drawing, but it really bites when you have to bend over to grap something, and you print.
I still recommend IWB for big guns.
The holster is everything in IWB carry. I have sucessfully used Milt Sparks, Brommeland Gunleather, Tucker Gunleather & HBE holsters and all have been extremely comfortable with 4" guns.
Using your criteria, would you consider a 4" K-frame to be a big gun, steveracer?
Also, does having the gun OWB keep you from placing your arm in it's natural position?
To bend over to grab something, I can always use my knees instead of my bac.
Are you able to carry OWB in the 3 o'clock position while driving?
Ive got a GP100 and a M66 that I carry OWB in a DiSanti. Great holster and I can cover it with a T-shirt. But it can't be a plain jane white T-shirt, I usually wear some kind of pattern on the shirt to distract peoples eyes from looking down at my right side, it's really easy if you wear a T-shirt that has writing on it as well brcause people are usually draw to read what it says and not look at the rest of me.
