.40 cal Brass out of 44 Mag

I long ago read an article by a guy who made bullet jackets out of empty brass by the simplest of means. He was way back in the boonies and was lucky to have powder and primers to work with. As I recall he used .30 carbine cases to make bullets for some .35 caliber rifle.

I read a story one time that recounted the Viet Cong loading 9x19 cases with .32 acp cases filled with lead. I was never able to verify the story, but it's feasible.

I've got swaging dies for .357", .400", .410", .429" and .452" diameter bullets. I've figured out how to use annealed brass cases as jackets for all of those, but again, it's very labor intensive. It gives me something to do when the winter rains start up here in the Northwest.

Hope this helps.

Fred

PS: Parisite, I didn't mean to highjack your thread. Sorry.......

That is some very nice work you're done, ReloaderFred. I'm impressed with the final result.

However, for most of us, I believe the initial investment in the equipment and then the substantial time investment make it impractical (At least from an economic standpoint). And though the brass, the lead and your time may be free, running a Kiln isn't, so that has to be figured. I'm sure that thing gobbles up at least 8 or 10 kWh heating up to 1150* F.
