I have a fairly new M&P that i enjoy shooting, but the heavy, gritty trigger makes it very difficult to do so well.

Has anyone successfully improved this the trigger on this model without the help of a gunsmith? Please explain if so.

If not, can I get a realistic estimate of what a trigger job might cost?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes.

2. $60 for Dan Burwell, IIRC.

www.burwellgunsmithing.com

Somewhere on that site are instructions for how to do it yourself. Mr. Burwell does a very nice job, btw.

Also, just shooting or dryfiring it a couple hundred times will eliminate almost all of the grittiness, btw. What Burwell can do for you that simple dryfiring cannot is lighten the pull, eliminate overtravel (a MAJOR improvement), and make the reset more positive.

I did the DIY trigger job on my full size 9mm, and it only took about an hour, and you won't believe the difference it makes ! If you can't be without your gun for a few days, the step by step how-to on the website is easy to follow, with clear pics every step of the way.

Okay someone help me out here....I have been to that site about 3 times and cant for the life of find the directions to DIY the trigger job.....

Id appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

I have put 400ish rounds through it by now, and it still sucks, granted I am comparing it to a Browning Buckmark and a S&W 629 shooting single action.

I've shot a M&P9 that was stock, then post Dan Burwell trigger job. The differene was, simply put, amazing. For $60, that service is a steal for the quality trigger you get back.

There is no link on Burwell's site to the page. You have to know the URL. I don't remember it, but go to www.mp-pistol.com and search for it. It is on there.

I did the DIY job and it made a world of difference. I ran into a guy at the range who had just bought one and he was complaining about the trigger. I let him shoot my full size 40 and he said, "Man, you must have paid a lot to get a trigger like that." I told him about the site, but it made me feel better about doing it myself. I'm sure Dan Burwell himself could make mine feel like a stock trigger though. He is VERY good w the M&P.

that I don't know. I haven't used him. Search the M&P forum, you should be able to get an idea. I have heard that it is pretty good.

Yeah, search for Burwell Trigger Job either here or at MP Forum. It's not linked directly on the site.

And Burwell's turnaround is pretty short, when I talked to him. However, he doesn't seem to undersand economics very well. He was bemoaning the fact that he kept getting more and more guns shipped to him and was starting to run behind. Most people would use that as an excuse to jack the price up through the roof in order to curb demand, but he apparently skipped that day in Econ 101, because his price is still pretty low. ;)

So, I dunno what his backlog is now. Email him and ask.

I have no issues with the trigger on mine, It was gritty for the few hundred rounds then it smoothed out nicely.

My M&P40 should turn 7,000 before the end of this month. Personally I think the trigger is just fine, but I suppose there's always room for improvement:rolleyes:

I just got an email from him, turnaround time is about a week.

Apparently if you go the DIY route you can cause the gun to go full auto at an inopportune moment. The peace of mind is worth the $65 + shipping for me.

Dave Bowie, Bowie Tactical...

I read a gun mag item about a sworn LEO/gunsmith named David Bowie who does great work on the Smith and Wesson M&P series. I do not know Bowie's website but you should be able to track it down.

All the best;
RS

There is a link to Bowie's site on the M&P forum. He is also very good. You can't go wrong w/ Bowie or Burwell.
