Apex DCAEK for S&W M&P 40

OK, I'm a newer gun owner & rookie shooter. I have a S&W SD9VE which I got the Apex trigger kit for, and love the improvement. I also have an M&P 40 & I got the DCAEK trigger kit, but it occurred to me that I really shoot this pistol (for me) very well compared to the others I own. I don't think I'm a good enough shooter to notice gritty trigger pull or the other complaints against the M&P. The trigger pull is a little long, but it doesn't seem to affect my accuracy. So my question is, should I install the DCAEK or leave well enough alone?

The danger of dealing with a gritty trigger is that you'll develop the habit of mashing through the grittiness when shooting and develop a horrible jerk.

I have a M&P9, but the last couple of M&P40s I shot were hitting dead on at 5-7 yards and all 5 rounds were touching. I was shooting standing, but you can try it off a rest to see if the trigger is affecting your shooting.

When I first got my M&P9, the trigger was very gritty and there was a hitch before the trigger broke. I was getting about 3" group. After I installed the Apex parts, the first group through the gun was < 1" (about the size of a dime)

Yeah you might as well install it, even though you might not feel a lot is difference, it may result in better shooting.

Would be interesting for you to install it, get used to shooting it, and then go back to the stock trigger and you can give us a report!

My groups tightened up quite a bit when I put the APEX in my M&P .40, as other have said the "hitch" right before it broke was quite stiff when slow firing and would cause issues.

You can change just the fireing pin block and make a heck of an improvment to the pull. That alone will clean up the gritty feeling. The full kit less the trigger return spring will give a 4lb trigger pull and adding the kits trigger spring well raise the pull back to 5lbs. Anyway you look at it apex make m&p's a worth while pistol.

Watch out for the little spring and its cap that are under it.

Yes, use the Sight Removal Tool in the Apex kit to keep the Striker Block spring and cover plate from flying off...watch the video

golfer ray You may be suprised how easy that sight comes loose and off. MY set screw came out with no heat or excess presure was needed and the sight tapped part way out out left to right with a brass drift then when it became easy to move used the plastic tool in the kit. You do want a very good allen wrench. NO cheapy stuff. Find one of the tool trucks in your area for a good kit. Best dollars spent.

Cleaning up the trigger bar parts will also help the feel. A small points file from AutoZone and some fine sandpaper or emery boards will cost you $7 but can be used for numerous small tasks.

They come with a tool now? I ended up buying the fancy midwest industries sight pusher tool.

The Apex Tactical Sight Removal Tool (I think it is made by Talon Tactical) that is included with the kit, isn't the same thing as a Sight Adjustment Tool

So maybe this applies in the gunsmith section, but I had bought aftermarket sights previously & had them installed. Still couldn't get the back sight out, so I took it to my local gunsmith & he removed it for no cost since I had previously paid him to install it.

I got them reinstalled, installed the rear sear spring with only a little difficulty, installed the trigger assembly with little to no trouble, & put it all back together. I thought this was too easy & it was. On the side of the trigger housing, I believe, there is a spring that can fall out if you're not careful. It did & I didn't catch it before putting it all back together. I've had enough for tonight & will tackle it again tomorrow after work.

Can you tell me what the serial number range on your gun is? And, I would also like to hear about the comparison between the stock and the APEX trigger.

The reason is that S&W imprved the M&P trigger. I have dry fired the new trigger on a couple of recent production M&P, and it is nothing like the M&P trigger I bought last year.

I personally do not see any need for an aftermarket part change with these new triggers.

Our m&p9c serial # is DYC*** bought in january and on the shielf for 4 days.
