My CZ Shadow Custom from the Custom Shop is my favorite, best shooting gun. It's 9mm and even I can hit things with it!:)

Lots of guys in Competition use the Witness /Tangfolfios They are great shooters also.

Hey Hondo,

I won't say "love", but I do have respect for the 40 S&W. I have a couple of Glocks in it, as well as a Beretta 96, and a Storm carbine to go with it. I also have one of the Just Right carbines in 40.
But, then again, I also have the Glocks in 9, Beretta 92, Storm Carbine, a barrel conversion for the Just Right, and a complete AR in 9 as well.
Not to mention, a couple of 1911s in 9. Funny, I really haven't seen one in 40. That would probably be fun.

Nowadays I shoot more 9 than anything else, but for a while my Glock 22 was seeing steady range time.
I'm going to have to put them in the bag for next outing.

Do you need some brass for the 40? I have some to spare.

As to the carbine Above what do you have I have thought about a cheap hi point carbine 40 , I have 1 shield 40 my edc and 3 g23 gen 4 two are black 1 is fde just finished loading 500 rounds of 40 plated plinking rounds

My first thought was "That ain't any uglier than my Glock 29". Then my second thought was "My, what has happened to Walther?"

Anyhoo...I like the .40 S&W. My dad has a S&W VE that is accurate and reliable, it just took a lot of practice. I bought a Storm Lake barrel for my Glock in .40 S&W that I practice with quite a bit. It's a fun cartridge, makes a big hole that I think Col. Cooper would approve of.

As far as reloading goes, I've done extensive research with both Hornady XTPs and Berry's Copper plated. Hornady's published data seems pretty much good-to-go if I recall properly. It seemed to me that the Berry's loads went hotter than advertised and I reached the magic 1200 fps (when they start keyholing) sooner than I expected. I generally keep them around 1000 fps.

Yes, I shoot them over a chronograph.

I had two 40 S&W pistols, my Sig Pro 2340 and a Ruger P94DC.
I sent the Ruger to auction. I made a small profit. It was too large of a handgun and looked a bit like a late 50's Oldsmobile to me.
My Sig is my bedroom gun ( one of them anyway ) with a bag full of mags and baggies and boxes of ammo as well and more near by. It took me awhile to get used to the 40 "tip up" when firing.
But my Sig seems to come back on target now that I have my grip figured out.
I can't say I love the 40. It's not my favorite but I'm going to hang onto it.
Shoots reliably and on target. A good home defense round. I have two Sig accessories that are exclusive to this forerunner of the SP2022.
They are hard to find but only work on this frames rails. I like handloading 40's too. Mine work very well, I trust them in a pinch.

JoJo,
One of the carbines I mentioned is the Just Right Carbines. It's an AR-like carbine with some of the AR features, but not all. There are a couple of differences in them. But, one good thing is they offer conversion kits that can go from 9 to 40 and even 45. The 9 and 40 use Glock mags and there are other models available. The 45 uses 1911 mags.
As I mentioned, I have the 40 and 9 setups for it. I'm thinking of the 45 at some point in the future.
I also have one of the Bushmaster AR-15 Carbon 15 models in 9. It's light, accurate and takes the Colt stick mags.
I had picked up the Bushmaster and later the JR way before the various 9MM AR lowers came around.
The other carbines I have are the Beretta Storm Carbines. They can take Beretta 92/96 mags respectively and they work pretty well.
I like pistol caliber carbines. They are a lot of fun at the range. I also own a HK MP5 clone, and Uzi clone, both of them semiauto, but still fun.

A buddy owns the HiPoint carbine and he is happy with it. I prefer the ergonomics of both the Beretta and the ARs to the HiPoint. You can't beat it for the price.

Appreciate the offer, but I bought 500 pcs for only $36 on gun broker.
Also found a screamin' ammo deal - $9/50rds - bought 3 boxes but had to add $10.53 shipping.
I thought $37.53 for 150 rds was a great deal!
website is called ammo mart if anyone else is interested.
Just checked they still have 953 in stock

Thanks for all the replies. It's always nice to see others interested in various calibers.

Hondo,
Those are pretty good deals. I was thinking of offering you a small flat rate box -- probably around 400-450 cases, just for the shipping - $6.
These are indoor range pickup, probably once-fired. It's really more of a PIF, as I have a bunch of 40 cal brass.

I like loading and shooting my 40 M&P. Brass is plentiful and cheap. Need to change the sights and I should be good to go. But my favorite is still my P220.

Well I have two bedroom home defense guns; A 1980's Dan Wesson 357 mag revolver and a Sig Tac Ops 40 S&W. Both are easy to reload and shoot well. The revolver functionally is bullet proof. The Pistol is not far behind and additionally holds 15 rounds. My son, however, has moved on from the 40 S&W to the 9mm. He is in law enforcement and I understand. I however just like these two calibers. Plenty of and easy to find components and both guns feel and shoot well.

My Nightstand gun is a HK USP 40, it just works. Always has and have never had any kind of failures with it. I don't shoot it as often as my 9's but it also isn't finicky about any ammo. Reloading for it has been super simple, though I check every round through my chamber checker.

When I made my decision to buy my most recent carry gun a couple of years ago, I knew I was buying a S&W Shield but I hadn't decided on a caliber. After some thought, I just felt better with 160-180 grain bullets making a .40 entrance wound vs. a 115-147 grain bullet making a .356 entrance wound. I ended up with the .40 and I am very pleased with the purchase. S&W wasn't yet making a .45 shield or my choice might have been different.

I shoot it often and honestly, the .40 recoil doesn't feel much more than a hot 9mm.

I owned and shot .40's and liked them just OK........I liked the .45 ACP Kimber 1911 better.........then I bought a Ruger SR40......love at first shot. As accurate as my Kimber, twice the rounds/magazine, first dbl.stack to fit my hand perfectly, and the double-spring in the Ruger makes the recoil feel like a single-spring 9mm. My favorite carry gun now!:) Comes in all black if you don't care for 2-tone......never experienced one failure to fire .... ever.....even dirty.

The first Pistol (non revolver) I bought was a Ruger SR40c. I disliked that gun so much, I vowed to myself I would never own another 40 S&W again. Since then I have gone with the 10mm and the 357 Sig. Yes I know the 10mm and 40 cal shoot the same bullet, and the 357 sig is basically a 40 cal case, but that's besides the point.

I was in the market for a compact gun, something like a Glock 19/32/23, but wanted something more powerful than a 9mm, and not a 40 S&W. One guy at the gun shop said buy a 40 cal and get a 357 Sig barrel if you don't like the 40 cal. I told him the side of the gun and magazines will have a 40 on them and that's not acceptable. He looked at me like I was crazy.

PS I think I am starting to get over my 40 S&W resentment.

Well, after being inspired by this thread, I took both my Glock 22 and 23 to the range last Thursday. Shooting them with my WST reloads reminded me of the fun in those guns. Turns out my buddy who is in the hiring process for a local PD wanted to try out a Glock 22 as that's what he will be issued. So, it worked out. He got to try it out, he liked it and was happy.
I will take them back next outing and bring the 22C as well as the 35.

I have a S&W Shorty 40 out of the Performance Center, and love it.The 11 round mag gives plenty of rounds and the pistol is super accurate with 165 gr Remington Golden Saber handloads.I may be old school and misinformed, but it's a heluva good carry setup. The round falls between the 9 and 45 in regards to recoil and power, and I've found it to be easy to load for and have been nothing but happy with it.
