I had a thought at the reloading bench that if 357 Sig why not 40 on a 45acp case and "duplicate" a 10mm......

Looked it up. 400 corbon!

Now I read, buy a custom barrel, drop it in and go......

How cool!

Anyone play with this cartridge???
I'm interested in it for a woods critter defense gun, 180gr and 200gr projectiles

I have a conversion barrel for my G21. I have shot some 150 grain Underwood ammo.

Very Fun!!

I have dies to reload, but I haven't yet. I haven't been able to find any reloading data to start out with.
If you convert a Glock, the 10 round magazines work better then the 13 round ones.

I'm considering for HK.

I'm kind of scratching my head though, because the velocity from the 400 corbons data vs the 45 data in the 180gr class looks too close to bother.

The HK would be a great choice. The only barrel I could find was for a Glock 21 and 30,
I have been into the 357 sig and 9x25 dillon for a while.
I love wildcat cartridges!!

Now I've thought about it more, if you take a long 180 40 cal and a short 185 45 cal and use it in the "same" case.....the longer 40 bullet will crowd powder space robbing performance.

Might as well stick to the straight 45acp for the heavier bullets.

Report back when you load some ammo though! I'd stick with the 165gr and down bullets.

out of production now, but look into the .40 super. I was going to build a Caspian setup in this, but they discontinued it and I lost interest.

I played with the .400 Corbon back in the ‘90s. I found the neck was just too short to give adequate bullet tension. About half the time the bullet would get pushed way back into the case causing pressures to go way up. This was true for both reloads and factory ammo. (I think I still have a box or two of factory ammo somewhere).

I finally sold off the barrels, brass, and dies.

Just my experience. If it were me, I would just buy a gun in 10mm. But I get the appeal of just buying a barrel and swapping as needed.

Another great round that is too often overlooked is the 40-10... which is made by loading .40 cal bullets in a 10mm case. The cases are a lot easier to find than most wildcats and definitely cheaper. The round really packs a punch and a surprising number of factory pistols are starting to become available in this round.

You're kiddin', right?

I stock 40 cal bullets for use in both my 40s and my 10mms. I don't follow you...:uhoh:

I have a conversion barrel for a 1911, and RCBS dies. Not much .400 Corbon stuff around anymore.

this could be a nice option for my G21 with nothing more than a barrel swap? no recoil spring change needed? what's the ballistic difference between the .400 Cor-bon and the 10mm?

I have some dies I use to swage .35 Whelen down to what I call ".30 Whelen." The case has a lot more powder capacity than the .308 Winchester. Alas, I don't thing the .30 Whelen will ever be as popular as the .35...

I'm a big fan of the M1911 and have M1911 guns chambered in 45 ACP, 40 S&W, 357 Sig, 9x19, 38 Super, 38/45 Clerke and 22 RF.

400 Corbon has been on the list but I have not invested in a barrel yet.

Too many projects, not enough time...As they say, when you are retired, every day is a holiday!

400 Corbon was designed to a) mimic 10mm power and b) increase velocity so HP expand reliably. The round is a necked down 45ACP so case capacity is less which results in less chamber pressure than a 10mm.

Barrel swap and maybe a stiffer recoil spring. Since it is a necked down 45ACP, the same extractors, magazines etc should all work.
