I was recently at a garage sale and couldn’t pass up a large box of miscellaneous bullets for almost nothing. Along with a bunch calibers I normally reload there was a jar with at a quick glance looked like some 44 caliber jhp but there was no labeling. I mic’d them when I got home and they measured out at .408. They definitely look like a 40 cal pistol bullet but if I’m not mistaken, those should measure at .400.
Are they in fact 40 cal or??

I did a little looking around. 40 and 10mm both use .400 caliber bullets, but 38/40 uses .401 caliber bullets. The 40/65 used .405 caliber bullets. The 405 Winchester round used .411 bullets. Possibly one of those? Just an educated guess, I don't know much about any of the above.
 
jmr40, that's pretty much what came up with with a quick search. Just wondered if they could be loaded as a 40 cal. 8 thousands over seems like quite a bit though. I don't load 40's or 10mm but there are 185 of them to give ( to or trade ;)) somebody who does. Thanks for looking.
 
Factory seconds/blems, that should’ve been .410”. Jacketed bullets, at Midsouth, go from .400 to .410 in both pistol and rifle bullets.
