AA# 9, H110, W296, N110...Just pick one. I guess W296 and H110 get used more than anything.:)

For full snort loads: N110 is an exellent(but expensive) powder, 296, h110, 2400 work well too. If you like acurate powders then AA9 is a good choice.

Mid range to light magnum stuff: Blue dot works very well. Also AA5 should work well.

Light plinkers: Clays universal or unique should fit the bill. Maybe even 231 for really light stuff.

I've gotten the best accuracy in my 6 1/2" Model 57, which was my duty gun for many, many years, with full loads of Winchester 296. It's also proven to be the most accurate in my Marlin Carbines in .41 Magnum.

For plinking loads, I use SR4756, but only because I picked up a 12 pound keg of it many years ago and I use it when I'm making up plinking ammo in several calibers. It's good pistol powder, but not the best for all applications.

Just check your manuals and pick out a load and see if it works in your firearm. If it doesn't, tweak it a little bit, and if it doesn't perform the way you want it to, go to another powder/bullet combination and try it. There are quite a few loads in the Lyman Pistol and Revolver Manual, 3rd edition, that would work for you.

Hope this helps.

To complete the range of powders suitable for 41 magnum, Lil Gun and Blue Dot. Blue Dot is a little faster in burn speed than most of the other powders mentioned here, but works very well for the 41 magnum, and especially for the 170 grain bullets.

I really like 18.0 grains Lil'Gun behind 250 grain WFNGC bullets from Cast Performance for heavy hunting loads in my .41 Mags.
6.8 grains of Titegroup behind 210 grain Hornady XTP's is a pretty mild load. I use it for plinking and target practice. But I wouldn't use those Hornady XTP's for that except for the fact I got a super good buy on them at a farm and ranch store last year. I bought all they had on hand.

The good thing is there isn't an inaccurate load in the .41 mag or at least I haven't found one yet. Pick a moderately fast to medium burn rate powder for cast bullets duplicating the old "police load" and slower powders for heavier jacketed hunting loads.

For 210 - 215gr SWC cast bullets I have used, Tightgroup, W231, Unique or Trail Boss for 850 to 1,100 fps, 2400 and Blue Dot for heavier loads.

For jacketed I've used H110, 2400 and AA#9. I've got the best velocities with 2400 and its a bit more economical than H110/W296. I like Hornady's 210 gr XTP's for a jacketed bullet, Remington's are the most economical, I've also loaded Speer straight jacketed bullets and have picked up some Gold Dots but haven't loaded any of them yet.

I like blue dot for most of my loads, but for my heavy hunting load I use lil'gun, WLP and 265gr lswc.
