I just hit my 40th, issued 2/27/76 at the tender age of 23 (because I couldn't get my butt in gear to get it at 21.)

Started on the job in 1969, so been carrying since then. After 40 years of carrying for the state, I rarely carry now.

Going back up to NYC this weekend, debating whether to bring one with me.
Are you staying through Tuesday? Might come in handy if there are riots related to the primary election...

<only half-joking>

I started carrying soon after my 21st birthday. It would be some years until I obtained a CCW, first a Florida non-resident, and then a New Mexico when we first obtained them.

In my first NM CCW class the instructor (now deceased) said "I have been carrying, legally and illegally, for 30 years". Many of us in the class nodded our heads and gave a little snicker.

Todd,

USAF buddy in the about 1990 was working with Mitre Corporation at an airbase in Mass. He wanted to carry, no problem at his NH residence, but a no-no in Mass he was told. He went to the local PD and they were rude and told him no way. He casually mentioned that getting his Florida CWL had been easy. Immediately the Police Officer got friendly and exclaimed that if he ALREADY had a permit elsewhere, OF COURSE he could get a Mass CWL and yes he filled out a cheesy little card right there and handed it to my buddy.

Strange state.

After a brief naked wait while my Florida CWL was out of date this last month I have at last gotten my renewal. Take them serious on the 8 to 10 weeks on renewal. I had gotten complacent for my original took eight days and renewal seven once before. Will not make that error again in seven years.
