hi yall, i need some help i have a stevens .410 double that i want to fix so im looking for year and such, below is the info....

on the right side of the recever it says Stevens model 311D savage arms westfield massU.S.A.

nothing on the bottom or left side of the receiver

on the right barrel it says selected forged steel =7v)
on the left barrel it says proof tested .410 bore 3" chamber 5v)

that is all i see i dont see any serial numbers

it was my dads gun and it was in a fire so i want to get new wood for it and a spring kit, dad is gone now and id like to fix it up. thanks for any help...

PS: i know that its not that safest thin to do to shoot a burnt gun but i have test fired several shots through it and its holding together fine (i just have to keep stretching the springs so it hits hard enough to fire)

thanks

Looks to be an old style....pre '68 due to the lack of serial numbers.

Your first stop for parts would be Numrich. Look under Savage Stevens Springfield.

As long as the temps from the fire didn't get too high and effect the heat treatment you should be fine. Numrich is probably your best bet for parts.

i dont know how hot it got but it burnt most all the wood off it, and took the temper out of the little springs, but like i said before ive test fired it with high brass shot and it didnt go boom :)

thanks il look at numrich

You don't want to be holding it when it does.

If it took the temper out of the springs, it annealed the action, locking block, and barrels too.

Take the firing pins out of it and hang it on the wall.

It is no longer safe to fix it or shoot it.

After a little investigation, the average house fire burns at 700-900 degrees F. That is definitely hot enough to ruin the temper of any steel. I would do like rcmodel suggests and make it a wall hanger.

+1

If it got hot enough to ruin the springs, it ruined the rest.

If you put new wood on it, one day somebody somewhere is going to shoot it and get a bad surprise.

Ditch it.
