My Grandfather gave me a 44-40 back in the early 80's. His Father gave it to him. It was made by LaSabre. He thought it was used by the Spainards durning the S_Am War. Some thug stole it about 20 years ago. My question is... does anyone know anything about this gun & have you ever seen them available. I would love to replace it.

Those carbines are a copy of the Model 1892 Winchester and were made to compete with Winchester, primarily in the Latin American market. They were never a Spanish military weapon.

A large number were imported from Spain and South America in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

They are not bad little guns, but I think the guy who wants $1000 for one is whistling Dixie; IMHO, a fourth of that would be more in line with the real value.
