The last ten years or so I hunt deer exclusively with handguns and handgun caliber carbines. The hunt has become more important to me than the kill. That and the fact that killing a deer means work and my hunt is over, whereas going home empty handed means getting to relax and looking forward to tomorrows hunt. Years back when I carried the ought-six with a 3-9 scope on it, 99% of my shots were within 100 yards anyway. But years ago, getting a good deer every deer season was a priority and not getting one was looked upon as a bad season. Nowadays, lettin' 'em go for the kids or grandkids to shoot gives me more satisfaction.
