Just purchased a 44 mag Freedom Arms, octagon barrel, 4.75, birds head handle and trigger job...Love it...did I say I loved it yet? I have a Freedom Casul but just wanted another Freedom toy. I am trying to develop a load for it. I would like to use TiteGroup...just because I have a ton of it...could change if need be. I am pouring a 255 grain gas check bullet. I do not need a heavy load for plinking around here. Yes, I know the danger of double drops on this powder....Just curious as to what you folks have to say.

Magma has a mold for a 240 grain...no gas check...anyone tried it?

Hodgdon publishes data for a 240 grainer, but not a 255. Not sure why you'd need a gas check, since you're not looking for a heavy load. With a spread from 4.7 to 10.0 grains, you can pick your load, soft to stiff, without having to go off the reservation for data, by using the 240 bullet. And save on the cost of bullets while having more to shoot from each pound. Win-win!

Lyman 255 gr requires a gas check. A lubed, sized and gas checked round is 267gr. The 240 does not require a gas check. I do not know why Limon uses that odd ball weight round. I looked at the data previously and used 6 gr of Titegroup. Easy load. However, I used a stout Acc#9 load. Better grouping but not as comfortable. I ran into the same problem with my Casul. The pistol liked a hotter round.

A 240gr SWC over 9.0gr Titegroup is the most accurate load I ever tried in Dad's Bisley Hunter. I'm very fond of this powder in .38Spl and .44Colt.

Thanks for the response and interest. Just fired the Titegroup load...7 grains. That was a good load....10 grains of Unique was great as well. I will try and get a photo. Thanks again.
