I wasn't sure if I should put this in Revolvers, Hunting or Accessories....so I just put it here! :)

I'll be using my Redhawk .44 Magnum for white tail deer this fall and am trying to decide which, if either, red dot to mount. I'm comfortable at the range using iron sights out to 50 yards, but think I can extend my range with a red dot.

I have on the shelf a Burris FastFire II and an UltraDot. Does anybody have 1st hand experience with either of these under the recoil of a .44 Mag or heavier?

I like the idea of the FastFire for its compactness and lower profile. So far, I've only used this sight for informal plinking (on another gun) through a couple hundred rounds.

The UltraDot has proven its worth to me over thousands of rounds of .22 in Bullseye shooting, but is larger and finished in a bright gray/stainless color that may prove distracting from a ground blind.

Thoughts?

UltraDot: http://www.ultradotusa.com/ultradot_dist_2010_005.htm (finished in Silver Satin)

Try each

I also own and use both sights. I'd consider the Burris first just because it might be easier to carry and holster.
I'm sure, I would be more accurate with the MatchDot, but in a field condition the Burris might better.
I have seen enough slide mounted sights of both brands used that I don't think failure with either should be a consideration in your choice.
Ditch the stock Matchdot rings and buy some Weavers. With Weaver rings the Match Dot returns real close to zero if you remove it. and my Burris is fine for Steel Challenge if I want to take it off and shot irons, it keeps it zero real close.
Keep a quarter in your pocket, and practice with each scope.

Yes, try them both before deciding. I've had a 2X scope, Red Dot, and Bushnell Holosight on my Contender and the Holosight won.
You could wrap the UltraDot in some camo tape to cut the reflections.

Over on CASTBOOLIT's, the Ultra dots get high praise for standing up to the heavy big bores snappy recoil. We're talking .475's, .480's and .500's, should be fine with .44 mag.
