The problem is... I’m a 44 Spcl whore! I have had to sell several firearms over the past year due to health and financial situations, but things have recently turned around. Took a little drive to my LGS the other day and saw this and it spoke to me in its sexy, take me home big daddy voice.. and I’m weak. Don’t get to pick it up until next week, but Simply Rugged leather is already ordered and Belt Mountain #5 base pin is on the way.

You are going to love it. The Ruger New Model Blackhawk easily handles Elmer Keith's classic load of 7.5 grains Unique with a 240 grain lead bullet. Out of my Blackhawk the bullets are moving 1000 fps. That really puts the 44 Special in a whole different class than the factory 750 fps loads.

I love the 44 special as well. I hardly ever shoot magnums in my 44's any more and lately one of my favorite guns is my 3" Model 696. Since I had to have mine rebuilt (details in an earlier post) it now has a Model 69 cylinder so it is actually a 3" 44 magnum. I doubt it will get many magnums fired through it. I've found the 190gr lead SWCHP from GT Bullets loaded around 1000fps gives great penetration and expansion. What a great carry load. Punches a big hole and is very manageable too.

I’ve been shooting a 200 gr coated RNFP Eggleston bullet over 6.5 gr Unique in my GP 100 for a while. That’s a pleasant load for punching paper, cans and plates and does double duty with newer shooters stepping up from .38 Spl to a larger bore revolver.

Sweet pickup ...and yes, I’m subject to the same asinine CA 10-day wait as well. ( I use the time to amass components and load several batches before the new gun comes home!)

Stay safe

Riomouse911... that’s the beauty of the 44 Spcl. It’s a sweetheart of a ca’tridge that pushes a big slug at moderate velocities.
Big and slow, like me! ;)

Will you replace the grips? The factory ones are very nice but such a lovely revolver would look very elegant with high quality synthetic ivory.

I'm another fan of the .44 Special! Couldn't wait to get a Ruger Flattop when they were introduced! Love everything about it with the exception of those cheap looking plastic grips it came with. Fixed that problem and now I have this most beautiful looking single action just the way I want it!
