444 Marlin recoil

Can anyone tell me what the recoil of a Marlin levergun chambered in 444 Marlin (22" barrel) would be like compared to a standard bolt-action .30-06?

I used to own a 444 with the 22" barrel and for me it was more pleasant to shoot than my friend's Ruger 77 .30-06. His was a standard size sporter.

I'd say they would be very comparable as far as recoil.

My closest actual comparison would be a Model 7600 Remington Pump Rifle in 30.06 vs. a Marlin Guide Gun in .450. In this case the .450 is noticably more stout but I think the .444 is quite a bit tamer than the .450.

I have a 26" Encore barrel in .444 and it is very similar to a .30-06 in felt recoil. Not too bad, but you know when it goes off.

I have the carbine length 444. The recoil does not feel too bad, but the combination of recoil pad compression and recoil did cause the scope to hit me in the eye brow. Getting a long eye relief scope and it should be a piece of cake.

I couldn't perceive any difference between my son's 30-06 and his 444 Marlin. Both get to feeling a little nasty after about 15 shots.

The 444 was engineered by Marlin to fill the empty niche created when Winchester dropped the .348 in 1956. That is, a 200 yard big game cartridge chambered in a well balanced lever action rifle. I'd say Marlin met this task quite well indeed!

I'm waiting for Marlin to make some more of their new XLR rifles in .444 Marlin. It has a 2 inch longer barrel, is a tad heavier and has a nice recoil pad. Should shoot nice...
