I was wondering if anyone made a 1911 in 44mag? I have seen the 50cal. 1911 so I would think it can be done. I am just not sure if anyone has.

I have a Desert Eagle in 44mag and was wondering if there are any other semi-auto handguns in this caliber.

Thanks,

The answer is: not really. The .44 Magnum cartridge is too long to fit in the 1911 grip frame. The .50 GI cartridge in the new .50 caliber 1911 is the same length as .45 ACP, and so can fit with some minor modifications to the 1911 design.

There are some sorta-1911 guns that can handle cartridges that long. AMT, LAR and Coonan made guns that were kind of like a 1911 in humungous cartridges.

My ole' bud Big G has got a LARS Grissly
in .44 Remington Magnum. And if my memory
serves me correctly, I think there is a pic of it
on file here at THR? If not, I feel sure that he
will be along shortly to share it with us.

Didn't Mitchell Arms announce a 1911 style 44 magnum at one time? I don't believe it was ever produced, but I swear I remember seeing an add for it in a magazine years ago. It wasn't the LAR, pretty sure it was Mitchell. Hopefully someone else remembers this also.

As my ole pardner in crime Ala Dan specified, I do have a 44 MAGNUM revo ctg LAR Grizzly. It is like a beefy 1911 pattern pistole with remarkably good workmanship and holds six cartridges in the mag. Here is a pic.
