Looking at hs-6 for loading across the spectrum in 44mag.

Chose this because it allows the widest variation in charge weight for customization in my new 4" revolver.

I can see it wont give the most power in the largest bullets, but i'm holding off on MAX BLEEDING EDGE OF PHYSICS POWER until I get some other load data worked up for it.

Thoughts ?

Not a powder I have ever used in 44 Magnum. I usually stay away from faster burning powders unless I'm loading reduced power loads. When you get to loading bleeding edge rounds I would recommend getting a slower powder like H110.

Thats two good nods, I like it !

It also has the benefit of producing velocities near the top 3 or 4 for just about every bullet type i'm considering.

Stalker : What do you use for your your full house loads ? Bullet and powder.... I'm considering a hornady 300 gr FTX.... any thoughts on that ?

On second thought, being sleepless :barf: and consulting some actual ballistics calcs, it looks like 200gr Nosler JHP's and H-110 might be the better trick. ( 1708 fps at starting charge, 1133 ft-lbs ) Thoughts on that ? :D

I use 296 for 44 mag but I had a little HS6 and figured I would try it a few weeks ago. It worked ok. It seemed to recoil more than the 296 and I found it was much more dirty than my norm. I don't plan on using it again. I was shooting it out of my ruger SBH Hunter w/ 7 1/2 bbl. It was accurate but so is everything I have ran in my pistol. My only complaint is it was dirty.

blarby,

a magnum primer works best in my hs-6 loads (i use cci350). if you change drop the powder charge 10% and work up.

h110 will work for 200gn bullets. be prepared for the 2 foot fireball out the muzzle!

I've never used it but am quite familir with its applications and it should be very suitable for your intended purposes.
I do prefer AA4100 and 2400 for top end loads however. Versatile and no magnum primer needed.
