Hey all,

Been a member here for a few days, I've been reading all I can and you guys are a wealth of information.

I have just recently gotten back into guns. Just last week I bought my first AR-15 and another gun I love which is a Reemington 870 in the parkerized finish. Enough rambling and onto my question.

For my next purchase I really want a good .45 for home protection. Keep in mind that this won't be a carry piece as I have other calibers and guns for that. I really love the 1911 look. The problem I have with them is that the ones I like (Kimber,Colt, etc,) are Single Actions. I prefer a DAO as that is what I am the most comfortable with and accustomed to. I sort of wanna get something a little more attractive than a Glock (although I'm a Glock fan and owner).

Can you guys recommend any good 1911's which are DAO???

Is there such a DAO gun in the 1911 style?

Thanks in advance guys. If this question has been asked a hundred times I'm sorry. :(

Check out the Springfield XD in 45. They have a very good reputation, and very good ergonomics IMO.

If you like the 1911 platform, ParaOrdnace makes a 1911 with a double action trigger. I can't recommend it, since I don't know anyone who has one... but I'm sure some of the guys on here have experience with it and will chime in.

Here is Para's website and info on what they call the LDA.

I guess that answers my question. I'll check out the PO line and see if I like any. Thanks guys.

I'm a 1911 fanboy, and I carry one. I carried a lot of other guns before I settled on one. I'm full of reasons it's the best.

Don't listen to anyone like my. When you are fighting for your life, my opinion won't help you. Go to a rental range and try a lot of different guns. If you decide that a 1911 is best, congratulations. But don't let dealers or internet ninjas make your mind up for you, go with your own gut.

Todd Jarrett has broken world records with the PO LDA series. He has sponsorship. It can be done, doesn't mean it's the best setup.

Having said what internet opinions are worth, think hard about loading that shotgun with #4 buck and making THAT your primary HD weapon. (I do.)

I have two Para LDAs and both have run flawlessly. One is the Carry9 (which I don't carry anymore - now I carry a 1911 commander) and a PX1640 (16 rounds of .40S&W).

A 1911 that isn't SA isn't really a 1911. But if you can get a close look at a Para LDA and decide you like it I'd say go for it. The Paras also tend to be double stack which also disqualifies it from being a real 1911. But some folks really want the extra capacity so don't let that stop you either.

However, don't dismiss the 1911 SA trigger without trying one. I used to think I liked DA/SA semi-autos (never much liked DAO, though) but once I tried a couple of 1911s I was hooked on the trigger.

Thanks for the replies Gents. My current first grab for home defense is my 870 with 00 buck. Need to put some #4 in there I know, just haven't gotten around to it.

As far as preferring the DAO, that comes from being trained for years in Law Enforcement on a Sig P226. I know in a life or death confrontation where I would be acting on my instincts and training I will do better with a DAO than any other action because of muscle memory.

Think I might stick with my gut and go with a Glock .45 for my bedside. I have a 27 and love it, just want a little more punch for things that go bump in the night ;). But I will have a nice true 1911 SA with some nice wood grips eventually, for the safe.

Thanks again guys. This place is great so far, I can see though that it's gonna hurt the pocket book :D
