I don't know how to quote another post, so I'll just respond to Archangelcd's comment.
There is no doubt that there are other "better" powders for reduced loads among the many powders we have to choose from today.
The OP asked about Unique, and I provided some places to look with some interesting and historical information. I have tried some of these loads, and they work pretty much as advertised. It was a fun thing do do.

I think that word best sometimes gets the better of us all. (-:
I was more talking to the OP than you because it seemed he got some questionable information outside of this forum. I wasn't dumping on your information.

While you are waiting on your Lyman check out
http://www.accuratepowder.com/load-data/ a downloadable .pdf with Data for AA and Ramshot powders.
Alliant also has a downloadable .pdf. Note: Alliant only lists MAX charges reduce their data by 10% to start
Hodgdons site has data for Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester.
I believe there are 2 4198s IMR and Hodgdon. I have not used either but the load data is different between the two.
4895 is also made by both IMR and Hodgdon and has loads listed for .45-70. If you check Hodgdons site you will see the data for these two is different as well.
(if that isn't bad enough about 3 companies make a 4350, not for use in .45-70 but just an example)

Since you are waiting for your Lyman, mine lists these powders in .45-70 for lever guns with a 292 gr lead bullet.
SR-4759 (IMR , discontinued I believe)
AA5744 (Accurate Arms)
IMR-4198
AA2015 (Accurate Arms)
N130 (Vihta Vuori) (nice powders from them but usually about 30-50% more expensive than other brands)
H322 Hodgdon
for lower pressure loads (Trapdoor Springfield) with a 292gr lead
they alos list these
RX7 (Reloader 7- Alliant)
IMR-3031
Varget (Hodgdon)
as mentioned Unique would work but you would probably be better served by one of the above powders that Lyman lists or is listed on the powder companies web site.

If ArchAngelCD likes AA5744 I would but it high on my list of things to try first if I was going to load .45-70

Another vote for AA 5744. it's good stuff. I use it to load .458 Win Mag to 45-70ish levels.

24.0 Grs of Trail Boss (100% Load Density) and a 350 Gr JSP gives about 1150 FPS in .458 brass (24" barrel) and is super light in a heavy rifle.

walkalong, I heard they had some big hogs in Alabama but a ,458 WIN Mag:eek::D

Here is a like to Hodgdon "Cowboy" data for .45-70

If it was me with ArchAngelCD and Walkalong voting for 5744 it goes to the top of the list. If I was getting a tax refund I might just rush out and buy a .45-70 just to try it.
Ahhh but no refund this year:( Maybe next year, as a .45-70 lever gun looks like it could be loads of fun. Nice light loads or bruisers.
Just including the Hodgdon link so you can have more data.
In general more data is a good thing.

Thanks for the info imma have to try that powder too

I am the one with " some kind of bolt action rifle" that Dudedog was referring to. It is a Siamese Mauser re- barreled to 45-70 by ER Shaw. It has a 26 inch barrel, and weighs 10 1/2 pounds. It is classified as a modern rifle, and can use the higher pressure loads. I used IMR 4198 from 1984 till last year. I had some IMR 3031 that I was using for my 32 Rem., so I gave it a try. I do not load 300 gr lead, but shoot 350 Hornady round nosed bullet. With the 1600 fps load for the 350 gr bullet, I got a .78 inch 5 shot group center to center with the 3031. I do not know if this is repeatable, but will try again soon. I had to back off of the 2100 fps loads, the 1600 fps loads still push back a bit, but not like the 2100 fps ones. I do not know where the Henry fits into the 3 powder loadings , it is up to you to determine if it is the same as the Marlin lever action. But is a fun cartridge to shoot.
