.45 ACP Carbine ammo?

While having a somewhat frustrating day zeroing a new Bushnell Trophy red dot on my HK USC, the fellow in the lane next to me came over to commiserate. I could get it pretty much centered, but I'd have to call the results more of a pattern than a group, with some high, some left, some on, some a little low, etc. I did check and recheck the mounting, and there was no apparent problem there.

Although I'm still pretty new to shooting, that same day I zeroed an AR-15 and was getting consistent bullseyes, and the fellow who came over was doing a pretty good job with a Saiga, I believe. So I paid some attention when he mentioned that he could not get consistent groups with his .45 Beretta CX4.

This made me wonder about the ammo, as HK and Beretta are both, I think, pretty decent quality manufacturers. I've been shooting Winnie white box 230 gr. FMJ and Federal AE 230 gr. FMJ. The HK manual says:

So, have y'all got any suggestions for ammo that might lead to an improvement? Do you think the ammo could be the problem?

i shoot exclusively 230g ball reloads from mine and it shoots very accurately (no problem hitting cans from 50 yrds over and over and over all day long), even after i short-barreled it and after it had a UMP conversion done to it.

when they first came out, the HK reps used to hold an "HK day" at my local range where they sponsored a bullseye competition, where the winner got to keep one. i don't recall anyone ever blaming the gun. i think they're fantastic

I haven't tried a red-dot, or any other scope on mine. I never considered it to be a target rifle. Of course I never considered the recoil would bother me shooting handgun ammo in a rifle either. The next time I shoot it I'll wear a shoulder pad (I'm shooting off the bench).

I suspect the red-dot scope to be the problem vs. the rifle. If I'm testing accuracy of a rifle I generally will go to a 20X scope with AO.

I do like your idea of a red-dot on it though. I may try that in the future.

I have a Beretta CX4 in .45 acp. I have shortened the barrel to about 14" and put a permanent muzzle brake on it. I put a Trijicon Tripower on it. At 50 yds., it's pretty impressive. At 100 yds., the groups open up appreciably, but are consistent. It will keep the rounds inside the chest area of an IPSC target. At 50 yds., it will work over the head area of an IPSC target. The thing I like most is that with the chevron recticle sighted at 50 yds., the target is placed on the chevron, at 100yds., the chevron is placed on top of the target and it's on.

That's interesting. I have a Trijicon TA-33 sitting on an AR-15; perhaps I should try it out on the USC. Thanks.

i use a holosight on mine (the eotech clone)
