I have been working up a "45 long colt" load for my glock 30. What I ended up with is a 265 grain lswc bullet going 885 fps. warning: the load is 45 super pressures so be careful. load: 265 grain lswc, 6.6 gn power pistol, cci 300 primer, 1.183" col, .001" crimp, starline 45 super cases.

what surprises me about this load is that case took all .370" of the bullet shank and did not bulge the brass at the side wall. So after I worked up the load, chronyed the load and shot it into water jugs (penetrated seven), I took the fired cases and measured the case wall thickness from the mouth back to the point the wall started getting thicker (thickness varies from .0095" to .0105"). That distance is .320" for the three starline cases I measured (with my newly purchased ball micrometer).

how nice to have an automatic bullet stop so the feed ramp can't shove the bullet farther into the case and raise pressures to 460 roland levels. finally a "bear" load for my glock.

Then, I thought I better measure my regular 45 acp cases. so I sampled ten of my mixed cases and the mouth-to-web distance is .320" for all cases [ how convenient!]. therefore the 265 grain lswc bullet will load up and shoot in all my 45 acp cases. what a pleasure to find consistency in such an unexpected place.

Man I keep wanting to try 250gr jacketed bullets in my 45 auto 1911 but I haven't seen any data for that.

I made a softer load for my 1911 using w231, but the velocity is in the low 700's.

the brian pearse "pet load" article in the Oct 2017 issue of handloader magazine has 45 acp data, but the 250 grain bullet is lead, not jacketed.

luck,
