.45 ACP Revolver...?

I have shot all kinds of bullets through my 625's. One of the most accurate bullets was the Berry's plate 185gr RNHB. That was schweet! But, I have plinking load of a 200gr LSWC in WW or Fed cases with F150 primer and 4.2 of TG crimped at .471".

Janitor just needs more range time with his 625.

One thing he does not need is help taking pictures! :) :)

I shot a friend's 22 yesterday. I was shocked to see that it hit near POA - just off vertically by an inch or two - at 12yd - with his 230gr FMJ reloads. I liked the grip - and, that lock is barely noticeable, even if it's inclusion makes no difference to me. I like my 625JM better... it has a better trigger, of course, because it has been well broken in. The 22 owner didn't want me to shoot my Auto Rims in his revolver, although I have no idea why. I did try a range of ammo, including 215gr LSWC @ 830 fps and my kicker 255gr LSWCBB @ 870+ fps in Auto Rim cases, in my 625JM - super fun. Of course, it can be adjusted for coincident POI/POA... and seems easier to aim more quickly. Yeah, I love those fast-grab Miculek stocks! I won't be seeing a 22 anytime soon in my collection... mainly because I am broke!

I shoot auto rims in my Mod 22. They are made for these guns. Maybe your friend doesn't know that?

I just read in another forum that, " a .45 Colt revolver of modern vintage...is almost certainly set up to work with 45-caliber bullets appropriate for the .45 ACP."

So, the Smith Mountain Gun can fire .45 ACP with moonclips?

I doubt it. You wouldn't be able to close the cylinder with the moonclipped ACP rounds in there. You'd need a new cylinder. My Smith Mountain Gun CAN handle .45 ACP, and .45 Auto Rim, but certainly not .45 Colt. Not even with a new cylinder, but the reverse can be accomplished with a new cylinder, i.e., a .45 Colt to a .45 ACP.

There are Mtn guns in 45 LC and in 45ACP. But, a 45LC gun is not meant to shoot 45ACP rds.

I think they're talking about .452 versus .454 bullet diameter when brewing your own home loads.

45acp typically uses a .452 bullet diameter, whereas .45LC and .454 Casull use a .454 bullet diameter.

This writer may be suggesting that the barrel on the .45Colt revolver in question may be set up to shoot bullets of .452 diameter rather than .454.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt with an extra conversion cylinder in .45 ACP. You get two great calibers, and no need for moonclips either.
I was just about to mention that when I got down to your post. If you have a SAA clone you can also get a .45 ACP cylinder from VTI Gunparts in Lakeville, CT.

And I believe Taurus makes a modern DA revolver chambered for .45 ACP.

Of course, Ruger has made Blackhawk and Vaquero .45 convertibles with both ACP & Colt cylinders - and the 'common' sized barrel - for some time. Lead rounds for .45 Colt can be longer than the usual ACP fare, but all I have tried (215gr LSWCBB, 250gr LRNFP, & 255gr LSWCBB) have had plenty of cylinder bore left, either from ACP's or AR's. As stated, they now share the .452" bore.

PS I recently called Ruger for an ACP cylinder for my SS 5.5" Bisley BH, an AccuSport goodie from several years ago, as they had a run last year of them as convertibles - so I know they 'had' them. They refused, stating their policy is to only sell parts for regular catalog items!
