Just letting everyone know. Back in production by popular demand! The Viper line of ammunition. This ammunition is .45 ACP loaded with 150g of 7 1/2 size nickel plated shot (apx. 110ct). This shot has a very thin coating of nickel for lubrication during loading and for it's travel down the bore. This ammunition will not hurt your rifling in any way. The brass has an integral shoulder for proper head-spacing in semi-automatic pistols. Most pistols will cycle correctly with the original recoil spring. If you have increased your spring weight, it may not cycle; however a quick hand cycle of the slide will chamber a fresh round. They are crimped in a star pattern with a round profile for positive feeding from the magazine. This ammunition is designed for small pest control and especially snakes (hence the Viper name). This is a must for those who hike, camp, or fish in areas that snakes may be present. Center the bore-line with the head of the snake, pull the trigger, and your snake problem is solved. Packaged 25 rounds per box. 8.85 per box.
 
Sounds good; thanks for the update - I've shot some .45 acp shotshells and the damage to a paint bucket was surprisingly extensive.
 
As you can see from the picture, we do not use the capsuls like you see for the .38/.357. Those work great in revolvers, but in a semi-auto they tend to shatter on the feedramp. Ours are crimped with a round nose profile and they feed great.

No, there is not a shot cup. We did some development with them and the accuracy did not improve with it. We'll continue with them and see if we can't adjust the load for it's use. Right now there is a copper disk acting as the wad to keep the shot from mixing with the powder and keep the powder in place. It also allows for a larger load as the only shot cups I was able to find had a fairly thick base to them.

We have not gotten them uploaded onto the live site yet, which is why you can't find them. For now, until I up-load again you can just e-mail the order in to us at [email protected]
 
I have loaded my own 7.5 and 8 shot in various calibers for years. I would suggest that you also offer smaller sizes (9-10) for pattern density. The smaller shot works better than you would think at my typical snake killing ranges.

I too think that smaller shot (10,11,12) is more effective for snakes. The discontinued Remington crimped loads work the best of any we've tried in the ACP. The #12 shot literally covers a target at eight feet, snakes go limp.
 
I have some of the old Remington R45AP5 ShotLokt ammunition in my stash.
That small shot patterns very nicely. And the ammo finctiones flawlessly in my guns.

I just wish that someone would offer a reloadable brass cased clone of the aluminium cased CCI shotshells. They also feed 100% in my guns and they hold just a little more shot than the Remington ShotLokt ammo does.

Smaller shot and more of it is great.
 
Thanks guys, when I went to BPI's website I just looked at the list on the top of the page and didn't scroll down. At the top they don't list the #12.
Anyhow, the #12 shot is now also available. 150g Apx 600-700 pellets. I agree the pattern density is much greater. I believe the #7 1/2 will be best suited for small game at close distances (squirrel in a tree anyone?) and the #12 for snakes, rats, etc...
 
I may have missed it, but FPS on these loads? How noisy are they out of a 5"bbl? One last question - do you offer the shotshells in different sizes (#8, #12, etc)

Price seems reasonable, I may try them. I keep a couple of boxes of the CCI .45s around for forays down home where copperheads, timber rattlers and moccasins are a lot more common. Out to about twenty feet, they've worked well.

Also good for impressing the nephews by breaking hand-tossed clay birds with a GM. One day, they'll catch on :D
 
The shot string will still fly in a spiral giving big holes in the pattern. The best thing for Kaa is a 6' stick and watching where you put your hands and feet.
 
The pattern is roughly a 3-4 foot circle at 20 feet. While that is not near what a shotgun will pattern, it is fully acceptable for a load of this type. With #12 shot a 3' circle will have about 650-700 pellets in it. That's 8.25 pellets per square inch! ((1.5*1.5)*3.14 = 7.065' 7.605*12 = 84.78" 700/84.78 = 8.25) If we are looking at the 7 1/2 shot that is 1.3 pellets per square inch. Again perfectly acceptable for a snake, but better yet for small game as the large pellets will retain more energy and penetrate deeper.

We did not chronograph the loads, so I cannot give you a velocity figure. In ballistic gel the 7 1/2 pellets penetrated on average 8". The #12 shot penetrated 5-6". We have two loads available 7 1/2 and 12. Both are apx 150g and both cycle, feed, and function in all the .45 autos we tested them in. Noise is a bit less than a regular load, but as with all firearms you should wear hearing protection.
 
How about a 357 magnum flechette round?You could probably fit between 6-10 flechettes in there under a cup.I'd buy some of those... :D

Years ago™ when I was loading commercially I gave some serious thought to a flechette load for a handgun.

With the military surplus flechettes (which was all that was available), such as they used in shotgun loads, were too long for conventional revolver cases.
Even 5-in-1 blank cases weren't long enough.

If you made the flechettes shorter you'd lose the ballistic coefficient and they wouldn't fly true.

I made some up in .45-70 cases, using nine flechettes and a .410 shot wrapper and that's when I learned that flechettes work even worse from a rifled barrel than shot does.
 
Taking out the garbage this evening I came upon a four foot rattler in my driveway. It scared the crap out of me, (I really dislike snakes of any kind).
It seems that all the recent rain here in AZ has got them on the move looking for rodents. My order for the no. 12 shot will be coming soon. :)
 
glock 30+shot loads=dead snakes

i have a creek in the back yard and a chicken pen. That adds up to about 25-30 snakes a year. They FREAK out the wife. I use the 22LR,9mm,.40 SW and the .45 ACP seems the best. Both .40 and .45 seem to reduce the first 4-6inch of snake to gone...
