It's kind of like a .454 Casull on steroids. I think it would be wonderful as an anti-personnel round because it uses .452" bullets intended for .45 Colt and .454 Casull. At 2200 fps, there should be some pretty dramatic expansion. Since it's also straight-walled, rimless, and beltless, I'd think it has to headspace on the case mouth which rules out heavy roll crimps.
For hunting, I'd prefer the .458 SOCOM. More powerful and uses .458" bullets more suited for big game hunting.
thats what i was thinking. i really like the .458 socom. i really like the fact that you can use any number of bullets ranging from 250 grns all the way up to 600grns?
i think that the .450 bushmaster will come on strong, and hornady and bushy will work to make it more versitile, or it wll flounder. either way, i think people will use it, and it should stay around for a while. ill probably have it in my collection someday, but i think that i will have the 458 socom first.
keep the comments and opinions coming. thanks, brian
I LOVE the idea of both .450 and .458, but I just can't bring myself to buy odd ball chambered guns. If either of these rounds were available at your local sporting goods store I would jump at the chance to own one. Like if someone made an AR in 454 or 44mag, id have one now. Dang it someone make one already!
At rifle velocities do you really need a bullet in .45 caliber to out someone down fast? Certainly a .30 cal would be adequate. That said, I think the 6.5 Grendel® is fine.
