Started with 255 grain cast bullets tried two different powders imr 4227 and alliant 2400 The 2400 was a real smooth load and the 4227 was more of a sudden pop. Anybody have and load data for a 280 cast gas check or 300 grain cast the wife liked the 2400 says its shootable for a woman

I use H110 (28.5grs) under a gas checked Cast Performance 300 grs LFN. Pretty stiff load. Same bullet over 26 grs IMR 4227 is less stiff and about 2" lower at 100 yards out of a 20" Handi Rifle. Both under 50,000 CUP according to Lyman 49th.

With lighter bullets, I like BlueDot. If you try any of the slow burning ball powders and light bullets, be attentive, I've had bullets stuck in the barrel several times. With 4227 or 2400, there is no problem.

You can easily attain 1200 fps. using a 300 gr. cast bullet and Bluedot in a .454 Casull. That's a "lady's" load.

she loves the casull over the colt but she enjoys the colt too will try out the blue dot thanks

I haven't tried them yet, but I found in the Speer manual some reduced loads using 454 brass, and the RCBS 270 SAA bullet. I don't see however where those Speer loads couldn't easily be adapted to a few other cast bullets in that weight range though, and I am looking forward to trying out a couple of them.

I also have a light load I put together a while back, but somewhere between the house, the range, and a bunch of trips to the country, the stupid label came off the box. I don't have a clue as to what their loaded with as far as the charge weight, but I DO know it is with 2400. Just haven't bothered to pull one yet. Maybe I'll get on that next time I am ready to load some up. Those like you mention do shoot great and the recoil and blast is even something my hunting pardner can handle. He has had plenty of issues with his hands and wrist, so much more than Colt level loads are out of the question with him behind the trigger.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my full tilt loads, but there are times when others around me aren't so much in favor of the added noise and muzzle blast.
