OK, I did it. I broke down and had to buy a Ruger .454 after reading so much about it on the THR and I am not disappointed. It is the kind of gun that makes you say ouch when you shoot it, but it is lots of fun. I have been experimenting with the 240 and 300gr Hornady loads, work pretty well. If anyone is on the fence with the .454 I really recommend it. Very accurate and lots of power, sure to impress your friends. I used to be a complete S&W guy, but Ruger sure makes a fine revolver. Has anyone have any experience with the .454 loads from Corbon? They make a 335gr and a 360gr that must be a hoot to shoot. Anyone tried them? Let me know how they are. If you have any other suggestions on production .454 loads feel free to add them. I am not reloading .454 at this time but i may have to start. thanks

among my "stuff" i have an older partial box of Hornady 240 gr. in .454. on the flap it says 2000 fps. no bbl length mentioned. maybe my 9 1/2 in bbl will improve on that a tad. anyway that is much faster than a 240 out of my .44. the .454 is a hoot to shoot and, maybe, the longer bbl mitigates recoil some. factory ammo is out of sight and empty brass is very expensive as brass goes. reloading is a must.

Welcome to the addiction bureau!! :D

A fine gun ... I love mine. I have used both the Hornady bullet weights and they both rock! I now have enough brass to start reloading .. many $$$'s (and grins) later. :p I have a 320 grain mould to cast some hardcasts ... with gas checks ... I look forward to getting some good results.

The worst load was a Win 240 grainer ... whereas the 300 gr Hornady calculates at around 1,850 ft lbs ... the Win was a whimpy 900 or so - felt like a .44 mag!

ENJOY - and if you can - get a red dot -I find it makes it better - but then I have old eyes.

I really like mine. I got it for a target gun. It's big and heavy making it stable. It has good sights. It has tight tolerances. It has a decent trigger.

I've loaded up some 1000 FPS 185 gr loads for target shooting which are fairly accurate but still need some tweaking. I'm still looking for a good powder for light charges in such a large capacity case (don't have any 45 Colt brass).

I also have some 250 Gr loads going about 1600 FPS that aren't so brutal as full power ammo. They're also really really accurate.

The gun.
The ammo.
