So the .458 is a dedicated upper that works on any standard AR lower, as long as you have a rifle length buttstock and buffer, and it uses any 30-rd. mag (which holds 8 or 9 .458 rounds). Well, I live in CA and 30 rounders are illegal. Does this mean I have to use my 10-rd AR mag and only get a 2-3 round capacity or does someone make a magazine specifically for the .458? I realize the only difference would be the number stamped on it, but....

Get some 30 round mags that aren't stamped with .223, put a single stack follower in them, and if you really feel the need, have .458 SOCOM engraved on it. The mags will be 10 round mags for the big bore round. With the single follower and the .458S it would stand to reason you wouldn't have problems. Stand to reason, mind you.
One caveat though, it's said that the .458S prefers straight mags over curved mags, i.e., 20 rounders.
I don't live in California but that is what was often said on the 458 socom forums until there was a mysql injection hack and they took it down.
(I have a .458S as well, was planning on taking it to Cali with me this summer, emailed some with ten percent firearms.)
