I had the opportunity to be at Camp Perry this August for the Civilian Marksmanship Modern Rifle event. One individual shot his personal 458 Socom in the Modern Military Rifle event. He had the one and only Socom in this event to the best of my knowledge. He was not shooting to be the best marksman, he was shooting for pure fun. This was a “highly trained individual” who actively worked for “the government”. In other words, he shot a lot and he shoots exceptionally well. His fun rifle for this event was his personal Socom. This pictures above are from one event that required the shooting of 10 rounds at 200 yards. As can be seen from the target, accuracy of the Socom at 200 yards was not spectacular, even with an expert marksman doing the shooting. However, listening to the rounds go over your head and through the target was most entertaining.

As said in the target pits by the shooters buddies marking his targets, the Socom was not made for long range shooting at 200 yards. It was designed for up close, one shot, one drop shooting. If you have a Socom, I’d love to know how well your 200 yard shots compare to this. If you can shoot a Socom better than this, you’al need to come to Camp Perry next year. If enough of you show up, maybe the CMP will start a Socom event.

...was not made for long range shooting at 200 yards...

200 yards is only “long range” for something that is not suitable for long range.
