I have a 60's vintage NM Colt 1911 Slide (on a unknowned receiver) that when I shoot sometimes flattens one side of the case mouth.

I have been using a needle nose pliers to bend the case mouths back to semi round (if I try to the resizing die it sometimes really deforms/bends the brass) but would love a better option to simplify the job.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lee makes a Universal Neck Expanding Die that works on 22 to 45 necks. It should work good for expanding partially collapsed 45 necks.

I just use needle pose pliers or a big tapered punch to get them round enough to go back in the sizing die.
They don't have to be perfect.

The sizing die makes them perfectly round again.

You can't adjust the extractor or ejector on an older gun without the ejection post scallop cut to keep it firm dinging case mouths.

Don't even try!

That's just the way GI style 1911 ejection ports roll.

It ain't no big deal anyway.

Just straighten them out enough to get them in the sizing die.

Thank you for the help.

-- I will try out the Lee Universal Expander, cheap enough to try.

-- I will also try a bullet to expand the deformed case mouth, have a bunch so can spare one

-- Do not want to modify the expander yet, last thing I will attemp

I will play with different powder loads to see if I can find a magic powder weight/bullet weight where the guns recoil action will minimize the number of case deformities. The needle nose pliers work ok but was hoping for a magic tool.

I use the needle-nose pliers-- insert them closed into the case mouth and then open up the handles. Like others say, the sizing die will iron them out the rest of the way.

Right. The military is not concerned about reloading the case. They just want it to eject every time.

i straighten mine with a needle nose pliers or some similar tapered device.

my glock carbine upper tends to bite the brass a lot and my lee sizing die manages to squish it all back in place no problem. If a piece were so crushed and deformed/folded that it wouldnt fit in my sizing die?... then I would consider throwing it in the scrap container.

any straightwall pistol case ive seen that requires a pair of needle nose is typically 2sketchy4me.
