Does anyone know the max load for 200gn LSWC using bullseye? My manual does not have it for that bullet and neither does Alliant website just a tatget load. I have a recipe for 4gn of bullseye but was wondering how far that can go up. I am seraching for the perfect load for my gun.

My Lyman book has the following:
#452460 bullet, 5.0 grains BE max, 860 fps
#452630 bullet, 6.2 grains BE max, 918 fps

I think it depends on the hardness of the bullet. These two bullets are both SWCs and both were cast with #2 alloy according to the book. With a hard bullet like Lasercast, you should be able to go to the 6.2 load. I would work up to it and check for leading.

Why would one bullet max be 5.0 grains of powder and the other 6.2 that seems like quite a difference if they are both lead SWC? I just started reloading so i am still learning.

Those 2 bullets are listed with OALs of 1.161 vs 1.235 - quite a difference. And my Lyman 48th Ed lists 6.0 for the latter, not 6.2.

Oops...should have mentioned the different OAL's on those two loads. In looking at my other books, I wouldn't go much over 5.0 with BE on a lead SWC just to be safe and keep leading down. The 4.0 load mentioned in the beginning of this thread is a nice load. I use 4.0 with a 230 grain lead RN to practice for Leg Matches.

The length of the bearing surface is different.

You didn't mention what gun you are using. It would make a difference. Blackhawk vs 1911 vs 1917 vs 625 etc...

I use 4.5 grains Bullseye, but would consider 5.0 grains fine for a stock 16# spring in a 1911.

Good Lucl...

i am shooting a taurus Pt1911 that i am very impressed with using factory ammo. I just bought some WIN231 today. So

I have 231,unique, & bullseye. & 200gn LSWC and dual color speer gold dot JHP's 185gn that i picked up for $15 per 100 So I am going to make 15-20 round batches starting at the min and go up .2grains

4.5-5.0 grains of Bullseye gives great accuracy (with a 200 LSWC bullet) from all three of my pistols. If you want to push a bullet any faster, I would switch to a different powder and bullet.

I've had good luck

with as little as 3.5 gr Bullseye; usually I use 3.4. I shoot a Gold Cup with reduced springs to make that work, but it's an accurate and comfortable bullseye shooting load and it doesn't lead.
