Help with 200gn RNFP

I have a nice supply of 200gn RNFP lead missouri bullets. I have never loaded these before and I am wondering if you guys could help. Due to the powder shortage I only have Unique and 700x avalible to me right know. Does anyone have a load for this using theese powders with a OAL? I worried that the 200gn SWC OAL data is different. Help Please

IF it were me I would work with the SWC starting load with something like a JHP COAL, as the bullet profile would be similar. In all reality though, as long as the lube ring is in the case, it fits in your mag and chambers properly, it cant be too long. Just be sure to start long, not short.

My XD doesnt like SWC it doesnt like eating them. RN and FMJ it is happy. I use the XD's for IDPA and want to get these loaded since I have them.

I've never been able to get my XD .45 acp to feed SWC bullets. It's a service pistol, and wasn't really designed to feed SWC bullets, so I don't try to force feed it.

If you are really anxious about your current load data for 200 gr. (lead) bullets, try building a few dummies and tweak the LOA until these feed reliably.

Now disassemble a round or two, and measure the seating depth of the bullet--i.e., the amount of the bullet enclosed in the case. Then compare that information with a given 200-gr. bullet in one of your reloading manuals.

IMO, unless you are loading up MAX loads, you can build your rounds using, for example, 200-gr. LSWC load data as long as the seating depth is not noticably different--say more than 0.020"

That kind of dimension should give you a starting point. Now build your test ladder of rounds, starting at the bottom.

Same bullet, different Brinell Hardness.

Use 200 grain LSWC data, and seat them to the bottom edge of the LC roll-crimp groove, or just a frog-hair below it with the .45 ACP taper crimp.

You can't seat them any shorter then that or you will have the case mouth sticking out in the air.

Good point, rcmodel. I'd missed the reference to the specific--'missouri'--bullet.

I think I have some older .45ACP 200gr. 'non-LSWC' (LRN? LTC?) in my inventory--at least I did--that are not grooved for a crimp. Since the crimp groove is there, then he can do as you said.

Start at 4.6 grs of Unique and work up. Seat at the crimp line. My favorite is 4.8grs
