45acp LSWC, fail.

Today I finally got a chance to test fire these 200gr LSWC bullets I cast a while back. Was able to try these in two different guns, a Springfield XD Mod2 and a Tanfoglio Witness. Now I know there was a thread somewhere regarding the SWC being used in the XD and the problems many had but now of course I cant find it.

Right away I was having cycling and chambering problems with both guns a couple ended up with crushing on the case mouth and the bullet shoulder. I couldn't even get 10 rounds through either gun and gave up. Maybe it's time to look for a RN or a FP mold.
I have to ask whether the bullets were sized after cooling.

Lee makes mold for 200 gr RNFP which is similar to MBC IDP #4-XD - https://www.midwayusa.com/product/101021623

I was just looking at that mold as I wanted to stay away from the 230gr stuff.
The loads I have look like the SWC you have here only I have mine seated even a little deeper. Also looked at the 228gr R2 Lee.

Lee mold for 200 gr SWC produces bullets with shorter flatter nose and requires shorter OAL to feed reliably. Look at comparison picture below of 230 gr RN with contact points further down the nose/ogive for HSM HP bullet (RN with tip cut off) that requires shorter OAL.

Update with new bullet.

I have loaded many Berry's RN Plated and actually have a magazine full sitting on my desk right now and they are the same 1.260".. The LSWC I was trying to use was also loaded to about where the one in the lower picture is only seated just a tad deeper.

Now I just finished casting some Lee 200gr. RNFP .452 45acp.. they look very much like the MBC RNFP also pictured above. Only after setting up a dummy test round I had to seat it to 1.112" OAL but it nicely falls into and out of the Finicky Witness. And that is w/o even sizing the bullet!

Now I cannot wait to load a few and go test shoot'um!!!!
