The .460 is BRUTAL.
A Ruger SuperBlackhawk in .45C can be loaded to very impressive numbers. Buffalo Bore has heavy loaded factory shells.
SuperRedhawk is available, if you want double action.
Having shot Ruger Super Blackhawks with "Ruger only" loads, I can tell you they too are "brutal". Same goes for .454. While it is an awesome caliber, the Ruger platforms are not heavy enough to help with recoil and that recoil is as bad or even worse than any .460 from an X-Frame. One reason I went with an X-Frame, besides the accuracy. I have he 10.5" P.C. Compensated Hunter. IMHO, probably the nest dedicated whitetail hunting revolver made. My youngest son has shot it since he was 11 years old and 95#s soaking wet. My DIL, my grand-daughters and many inexperienced female and male handgun shooters also have shot it and shot it well. Recoil in that model is comparable to my P.C. 629 Magnum Hunter. That gun is also compensated. Both guns have incredible triggers and awesome accuracy.
As has been said, the .460 is not a gun for everyone. In short barreled snubs, I agree, recoil is harsh. But so is the recoil from a 329 or any other magnum snubby. Those of us that own then and shoot them regularly have realized that they are truly a handloader's firearm. This is not because ammo variety is not always readily available, but the platform really shines when ammo is tailored to it. Many of us have also given up on the idea of shooting .45 Colt and .454 thru it. Again POI is so much different than POA from legitimate .460 ammo, that you are only practicing trigger pull. Loading down .460 cases to a level you can tolerate or prefer is the solution. Even most bears do not need the max velocities and pressure the .460 can produce. Accuracy is much more key that blazing speed.
