460v vs 460xvr

If you already have a 7.5" model 83, what are you trying to gain with the 460? Just curious, not saying it is a bad idea...but, imhe, the 454 has plenty of pop at 100 yards.

They indeed do, but the .460 has more. From a terminal standpoint, this is a good thing, although need doesn't have to play into this decision!

Well Then I guess I'm trying to gain Mo Pop!
I also have heard they are exceptionally accurate.
Plus I'm a glutton for punishment a little bit compulsive, like the notion accurate powerful longer-range a revolver that can also shoot 454 Casull and 45 Colt in a pinch since I already have plenty of that ammo and brass hanging around.

I did the same, Mr.Revolverguy, but didn't notice any significant recoil mitigation. Probably due to the different way I grip it and rip it vs. you. But i do like the consistent feel between the two.
That X Frame rubber grip is actually the one rubber grip that actually fills my hand reasonably well, and works alright for me. I've wanted to put a Nill Grip with a closed backstrap on my 460V for several years, but every time I pick it up I note that the rubber grip actually feels alright. Not sure I want to conduct a $200 + experiment either. But, it is an L frame sized grip frame, so maybe I'll pull the grip off my 686 and try it out.

I just couldn't help myself guys
I just ordered the 460 XVR 8&3/8 Barreled DA
Monster

The version I'm ordering from sportsman's outdoor superstore includes a weaver-style mount and no extra cost total price 1087.

I'll see how I like this and then decide if I'm going to get a 460 BFR.
But I definitely have no use for the 460v or other 460 with 3 and 1/2 inch barrel OMG:what:

I hope I get my revolver before Turkey Season ends.
Do you recommend 200 grain speedsters or 325 grain hammers for long beards?

Yes! Congratulations Hunt olive! Can't wait to read your impression of it and a range report.

Seems to me that the 460 would ruin a bunch of long beard meat regardless of the projectile you use, but I've not shot at a turkey with mine.

Just Joking about the Turkeys :neener:
Got my Benelli for them

Can I use the same dies I to make 460 as used for 454 Casull?
What powder do you recommend and what bullet weights for hunting
Deer
Black Bear
Hogs
Coyote

What reasonably priced off-the-shelf ammo do you recommend to get started?
I want something in the 200 grain range as well as something in the 300 grain range

You will have to see.

You can probably adjust the expander and seater dies to work but the 454 Casull resize die may be a bit short.

I'd prefer to get a set of 460 mag dies and set them up for the 460 Mag cases. Then I do not have to readjust them when I "change cartridges". But it's your choice.

As an aside, I load many hand gun cartridges on a Hornady L-N-L progressive but I've found reloading my 460 Mag ammunition works better on my RCBS Pro2000 press. For some reason, the RCBS shell plate better fits the 460 mag cases than the Hornady shell plate.

.....from Starline,
454 Casull/45 Colt dies work best with our case.
I use RCBS carbide three die .460 dies with mine and they work just fine.

I like good 300 grainers for deer. Blackies and hogs, IMHO, would be the same. For the price, you can't beat Hornady 300 gr XTP-MAGs. Some folks like the 240 gr XTP-Mags for a little more range and velocity. Still plenty for deer and bear. Just make sure you stick to the "MAG versions, as opposed top other .45 caliber bullets intended for use in .45 Colt. If you already reload for .454, you probably already know this. For 'yotes and other vermin, you could probably get by with the 200 grain FTXs. They are entirely too fragile for deer size game. In reality, you do not need to use anything heavier than 300 grains unless you are looking at Dangerous Game, Bison or large exotics like cattle or water buffalo on game ranches. Just not needed. My preferred deer load is a slightly compressed load of IMR4227 under a 300 Gr Speer Deep Curl Bonded. This load performs very well terminally on deer and is extremely accurate. The 300 gr XTP-Mags will shoot to almost the exact same POA and are a good option for practice rounds as they cost a tad less than the Speer and are generally more readily available. But in reality the Hornady's have performed well terminally for me too. I also have had good luck with H110/W296 powders in the .460. They give me a tad more velocity than IMR4227, but are a little more temperature sensitive. One thing I have found out with the .460. You do not need to run it balls to the wall for deer. For the most part I do not run max loads. The throats in my P.C. Compensated Hunter are tight and My max is lower than book max. Still, having a load that is more pleasant to shoot, and just as accurate and deadly out to 125 yards, does not need that extra 50-80FPS. I suggest you saty away from Lil' Gun in your .460 as known excessive and premature damage to forcing cones from it seem to be more prevalent in this caliber.

What can I do with the 8 in that I cannot do with the 5 in?
I assume with a scope that would be virtually
No difference in accuracy only Velocity
but with the 5-inch be too short to practically mount a magnifying scope like a 2 x or 2.5x scope?

This^^^^^ I didn't want a scope,but wanted a packable optic 460. So went with the V and a Deltapoint pro.Weigatinny mount.
