Found the following on wikipedia. Anyone have info on when this is going to release and how it will affect the cost of a gen 3 glock? I've been waiting to get a glock - couldn't resist - but I'd hate to buy a gen 3 now only to have a new and improved gen 4 come out right around the corner. Now if they can just remove the finger grooves....

"The Glock 19 has undergone two major revisions since its introduction and therefore there are three generations commonly recognized:

Gen 1: Non-checkered front grip and rear grip.
Gen 2: Added checkering to the front of the grip as well as rear of grip.
Gen 3: Added molded finger grooves on front grip, built in rail on frame for light/laser. Thumb reliefs molded into frame.
Gen 4: No official information has been released from Glock on this generation as of 10/05/07."

I used to contribute heavily to Wikipedia on gun topics. I left there due to the truckload of dubious information being added just because someone "heard" something. For whatever reason, gun topics are especially ripe with this stuff.

If there's no source listed for that info, ignore it. Better yet, remove it.

I've heard rumors of the 4th gen glocks for well over a year now I think. If you want a gun, buy it.

Ever since the G21SF came out folks have been speculating that Glock will add a true picatinny rail to the dustcover of their other guns.

The 21SF is the result of the Springfield XD-45 which equaled the G21 in capacity on a far smaller frame. That combined with the 10 round capacity S&W M&P 45, again smaller frame, but with changeable backstraps to boot, forced Glock to make a .45 that fits folks with shorter fingers. With the true picatinny rail the G21SF is also a manual safety and dark earth colored frame away from meeting the entry requirement of JCP Program should it ever be resumed. This is the same program which lead to the development of the HK45.

Glock isn't even building the G20 on the new short frame, and I doubt they will unless the XD or M&P are offered in 10mm causing them to lose sales. I'd look for a G30SF first to compete with the new-ish XD-45 Compacts.

Glock is having to give state LE agencies really sweet deals on pistols to keep the .45 GAP afloat, and retail sales on it remain poor.

At the same time they still sell every 9mm, 40 S&W, and .357 SIG pistol they build, somewhere around 2 weeks before they're actually made. Unless their sales of these guns slow significantly - which I don't see happening - I think it will be a while before we see any changes to them. It seems their current focus is to keep selling the bread & butter and push the .45 GAP to LE. I could be totally off base, but that's what I've seen from behind the gun counter.

As an LEO I can get the G37 .45 GAP @ $385, only other models that low are the G17 and 19. Nobody I know carries one. However everyone is picking up 21SFs...Why buy the 10 rd GAP when you can get the 21SF with 13 rds in .45ACP...dumb move on glacks part IMHO

The way the article is worded, I have serious doubts that there is such a thing in the works. Maybe, but unless the information comes from Glock it isn't worth much. Besides, a "new generation" doesn't necessarily mean improved. I have worked for several companies that "improved" perfectly fine products until they didn't work anymore. For example, one of the best electric typwriters ever made was the Remington model 25. IBM's model C was outselling it though, so Remington decided to make it just like the Model C. Thus was born the "New and Improved" model 26. Worst piece of crap Remington-Rand ever made.

There are many that think that the Glock Model 19 is the absolute pinnacle of pistol design (I am one of them - not that that is worth much). Go ahead and get one. There are few folks that have them that don't love them.

OK...Glock haters...have at it.

First Generation G19s are extremely scarce if not completely legendary. The first one I ever saw had the Gen 2 checkered grip.

If you don't like the finger grooves, as I do not, look for a Gen 2 and quit worrying about a hypothetical Gen 4. Or buy a current model and start sanding, it is commonly done.

If they make any significant change to the G19 design, it won't be available for sale to the public in California unless the new design also incorporates a magazine disconnect safety. I hope I'm wrong (please correct me if I am), but I believe thats how the "drop test" law works.

I too have heard rumors of a "4th gen" but if its anything like the change between prevous gens then you are not missing out much. If it is a significant change, then you probably want to wait until bugs are worked out first anyway.

There appears to be some credibility to the rumor that the G30SF is on the way; so, who knows? The G19 is the most popular of the 9 mm models in the US--far outselling the G30.
