5.56 or 7.62 Can for a 5.56 SBR?

I have a 5.56 SBR, and I was wondering if I should either get a 5.56 Can or a 7.62 Can for it. 5.56 would have a smaller aperture. The 7.62 would have a greater internal volume. Which one would have a greater decibel reduction?

SBRs are normally louder to begin with, so im trying to think of ways to mitigate that.

A YHM Phantom 7.62 can sounds almost exactly the same as the Phantom 5.56 can, in my opinion. The bonus is, you get the versatility of more caliber options if you take the 7.62. The downside is a bit more weight and size/length. I plan to go YHM Phantom quick-detach for my next can. Thus, I vote Phantom 7.62 for your SBR.

You read my mind, I was leaning towards the YHM 7.62. I guess the question is, is the TI worth the extra cost, or should I just go with the standard QD or SS.

I was pondering that, myself.... But that's a question I can't answer, since I don't own one... I'm sure the weight and durability of the baffles/core would be the contingent factor, there. I don't know enough about the science of the metals to help you out much.

I own a 7.62 suppressor. It works great on my 308 bolt gun and equally as well on my 5.56 SBR. I have included two quick video clips of the SBR suppressed and not suppressed. The only real sound from the suppressed SBR is the sonic crack which in the video sounds real loud but is bad at all......

Go ahead and laugh...it amazingly quitet. The only thing you can hear is the slide cycling and the bullets impact on the old ice chest I was shooting.

The .30 cans are longer and weigh more but will work they make more noise that a 5.56, despite being smaller.

If you go with a Yankee Hill quick detach in 5.56 or 7.62 you will have a hell of a time finding extra QD flash-hiders or QD muzzle-breaks for it...check around, they aren't available anywhere, and haven't been for quite some time. You will receive a SINGLE QD with your new suppressor and then good luck finding another muzzle device to use on a different rifle. Once you have a dozen QDs laying around though for use when you want, everything will be peachy.

YHM cans rock, I just have some distaste in their recent business practices.
