5.56 Ruger Ranch rifle model 26965

MTD builds an AR mag compatible chassis for the Ruger American rifles...its not cheap though

I'm not sure I would want a chassis. Maybe one that doesn't use AR style grips and buffer tube/ stock. I find a pistol grip on a rifle I shoot off of a bench is not really comfortable and usually in my way. I also dislike the adjustable stocks as they tend to have a bit of slop and not all that bag friendly. The fixed A2 style is better in my opinion and have changed to them on most of my AR style rifles.

Notice my two Americans bolt facing away almost hard to tell which one is the 6.5 creedmoor and which is the 22lr. Notice the AR types have A2 butt stocks.

Have you looked at the Howa mini actions , they are also a great option.Just a thought.

No I'm not familiar with the Howa stuff. I was looking locally on and off for a bolt 223 since probably 2020. The few locally I have seen were either used and abused and or more than I was willing to spend. I kinda keep telling myself I have enough but holding out for a couple of others if I can seem to come across a good deal. This popped up and I figured it was a decent deal for a new rifle and really the first new one I've seen locally. After I am able to go pick it up I will tell myself I'm good for another month or so.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the stock either, but I'm kind of a snob when it comes to some things.

Still, if I wanted to get into a tack driver, I wouldn't be looking at a ruger American. I'd be shopping for a 700 action to throw a krieger barrel on.

I like the ruger for what it is. Don't get me wrong, the rugers usually shoot really well. Their hammer forged barrels are nice and more than good enough for most uses. I just wouldn't go doing what many do to a nice quick handling AR ... turn it into a 10.5lb pig.

Now I have 2 rifles on my list. A ruger American and a bergara .22.

As of right now I own 2 ruger Americans plus the one on the way. I also have a stainless 6 inch GP100. I am happy with all of them so far and hope the same for the 556 ranch rifle. The 22 is quite impressive for the price and does quite well with federal bulk ammo. Also I will give the ruger customer service a thumbs up. Emailed them for a warped stock on the 22 and the replacement is in the mail no questions asked.

I don't have any personal experience with the Bergara stuff but I have heard good things. I'm doing a range trip early tomorrow morning. I'm planning on shooting the american 22 again after doing some trigger work. Hopefully it will make it that much better.

Appreciate the RAR for what it is. I have one in 5.56, with a small Nikon 3x P223 scope. Nice combo that weighs right at 7.0 lbs and takes AR mags. I do find that it likes the stanag ( aluminum military type ) mags better than the P-mags ( very tight fit ). Great Rifle for the money.

I had a few aluminum mags and gave them away as the Pmags and MFT brand seem to like my AR lowers better. I'm going have to dig now I might still have one left in a CA compliant locked Mag rifle buried in the section of my safe that gathers dust and spider webs.
