The 5.7x28 produces more velocity from a shorter barrel and the bullet itself is nearly an inch long (.85")

It is definitely superior in every respect to the .22WMR other than the .22WMR has more guns chambered for it.

Dr. Martin Fackler disagrees with you on that one, along with quite a few other notables in the firearms ballistics community.

97GTI is right, there is a major difference in ballistics between the 5.7mm and the .22WMR. Out of a 4-inch barrel, a 40-grain .22 Magnum gets 1450 fps. Out of the Five-seveN's 4.75-inch barrel, the 40-grain 5.7x28mm SS197 gets 2000 fps. This is a jump of 550 fps.
