I purchased a 5 inch model 625-6 from someone on another forum and I got it on Monday. This is my first experience with a 45acp revolver and moon clips. While waiting for the gun to arrive I ordered a bunch of clips and made a loader. It came with the Altamont grips on it. m625e.jpg 36shots.jpg
I was able to get out to try the gun on Wednesday and it really puts them in there. The target pictured is 36 rounds fired at 50 feet, double action from a standing position

Those are a great revolver. Accurate, very tolerable recoil and quick reloads with full moon clips.

If You reload....Try some 200 gr, lead SWC target slugs, sized to .452"-.453", over 4.0 gr of Bullseye . The accuracy will amaze You. So soft shooting compared to 230 gr ball too.

Nice acquisition.

My 3 inch 625-3 shocks me as to how accurate it is with regular .45 loads. As good as my Kimber Gold Match .45 (if not better.)

I have 2 625s and I love them, buddy of mine always wants me to bring one when we go to the range. In case you're interested Starline and Remington make 45 Auto Rim brass will eliminate the need for the moon clips. You might want to look into Ritz polymer moon clips easy to load and unload good for range use but not good for carry purposes

I loved my 5" 625 but I foolishly let it go. I have a 4" Thunder Ranch 325 that is totally bad ass. I love the full moon clips. I particularly enjoy shooting light 185 grain target loads. I keep is loaded with 185 +P JHPs. If using auto-loaders was not an option, this would be my home defense gun.

people say the polymer clips aren't good for carry, but nobody ever said why??? :uhoh:

Though they hold the rounds securely enough for range use rough handling will cause the rounds to pop out of the moon clip. Metal moon clips will hold the rounds more securely which is why everybody who owns a 625 has a love/hate relationship with their demonizing tool.

Get a BMT Equipped Mood/De-moon tool and working with moon clips is easy peasy. The ones for rimless rounds have a little learning curve to keep the rounds standing up as they are fed into the moon clip, but once you get it figured out your golden.

The tool is designed to hold the moon clip. Unload the moon clip then fill the tool with fresh cartridges and load the moon clip. No handling of the clip in between. The tool loads or unloads the entire moon clip in one operation.

Trouble is, they are a bit pricey.

The OP's 625 sure is nice!

I've seen the BMT tool and it's the ultimate tool for moon clips. My comment on moon/demoon tools is from posts from various firearm blogs

OK, thanks - guess I never handled mine rough enough to dislodge the rounds.
