Hold up a minute: the Charter is a 5 shot .32? Wouldn't that mean it's pretty much an I-frame revolver, even smaller than a J-frame?
If so, I'm buying one! I really like small-frame revos, and it always bugs me that S&W won't make smaller frames. The 940 (9mm) could've had a notably shorter cylinder than it did, which could've made a huge difference in sales. And I bet that a 5-rd .32 that's tinier than a J-frame would've been a better seller than "just as big as a .38, but you get an extra round!"
It's too bad that Taurus and Charter have twice the imagination of S&W... but half the QC.
I rather like the idea. The X-frame is a good (sane) stopping point on the large end. I think there might be a market for something slightly smaller than a J-frame.
A five-shot scandium .327 Fed Mag with a steel cylinder would probably weigh about 10 ounces. It wouldn't be fun to shoot, but it'd be effortless to carry, and it'd make a nice BUG.
