So I went to my favorite local indoor range tonight, and boy I was in for a shock lol. I usually shoot outdoors but I wanted to rent a few cool guns and try them out, this place has some serious firepower for rent.

So this indoor range has 25 yd and 100yd range sections along with a dedicated shotgun range with clay launchers available. Really cool facility.

So Ive shot my fair share of rifles, but all at outdoor ranges, all typical "boring" calibers - 556, 308 - 762, all the usual stuff. Also they were all typical 16" standard rifles, Ive never shot an SBR but have been considering getting one of my own.

So here I am just practicing with my conceal carry 9mm, then all of a sudden the booth next to me fires off a gun so powerful the concussive blast travels through the 3" or so think concrete wall and I can feel it in my brain.

Here is a picture of the 25-yard range booths.

As you can see - these lanes are fully enclosed other than the range in front of you. You have a door behind you that you can close and as I said, 3" or so thick concrete walls in-between. So I feel this shockwave that feels like Im fighting a small wave in the ocean or something and Im like "what the hell was that?" LOL.

We are all friendly at this range so I go knock on the door and he answers and I just ask him "what you shooting" and he shows me this killer 50 Beowolf SBR. Now what was he doing in the 25-yard handgun range? No idea, but all ranges in this facility are rated for 50 BMG, so its not like he was breaking the rules or anything. Plus he also had handguns and you have to pay separately to use the other lanes and this place isn't cheap so maybe he just said "screw it" lol.

But man, everytime he fired off a few rounds I had to stop practicing, that blast indoors is INSANE lol. You quite literally feel a shockwave rush over your body every time he fires a round. I just couldn't concentrate or land any shots whatsoever while he was shooting lol. Never experienced anything like it.

Gotta say - pretty fun and interesting night at the range. Also pretty cool that an inner city range is open til midnight on Saturdays. Another cool thing - they have a Barrett 82A1 50 BMG for rent, although it is $20 per shot 🤣.

Who here has experienced the muzzle blast of a 50 cal SBR indoors before? Just curious, was certainly the first time for me tonight.

If you wanna check out the range just for curiosity, here it is: http://tntgunrange.com/

Ya this range is pretty sweet, unfortunately its expensive so I don't go there often. Pretty much only when I want to rent a few cool things. Still haven't tried any of their full autos. Probably because its like $30-$50 per magazine rental price, yikes...

Looks like a very nice range!
It is fantastic, just wish it wasn't so damn expensive, and of course they require you purchase THEIR ammunition for a rental.

So between the rentals, the lane, having to buy their ammunition even though I had my own, I spent over $100 on this visit tonight, not even including the value of my own ammunition that I fired from my own guns lol 🤣.

If the booth walls are bulletproof it’d be worth it to me. I’ve seen so much crap at public ranges I feel like I need to be wearing body armor whenever I go.
Is it really that bad in your area? Wow man, I hate it when people just buy guns and don't even bother to learn basic safety rules. Sounds scary as hell, I can't blame you.

Nice range, I think I could enjoy one like that as I wouldn't be worried about some fool shooting me from the lane next door or 6 lanes down.

$100 for their ammo and rental isn't horrible if it helped you figure out the right gun to buy for yourself. Wouldn't be something I would want to do often.

Are you able to leave with your brass? It is a little thing but the ones with the grates in the floor so they get all the brass really annoy me as a reloader.

Sweet looking range! I do not shoot my .50 Beowulf AR indoors. Not only for my sake, but for others around me.

After last night I can see why lol 🤣. Don't get me wrong it was really cool and I just found it hilarious that Im getting hit with these concussive blasts, but at the same time I will agree - its kind of a d*** move 🤣.

Kind of. So theres no way out onto the range and you are not allowed out there either. The range is always hot. Your targets go onto one of those tracks and then you press an in or out button to push the target away or bring it towards you, even tells you what your distance is.

So you would only be able to collect the brass that dropped inside of your booth.

Be willing to be even in a snazzy space like the OP's there are holes in the ceiling.

Im pretty sure there is. This place is extremely popular, I had to wait about an hour to even get a lane. Plenty of people who are brand new to shooting go there because the staff are friendly and willing to come clear a jam for a new shooter out on the range. Between that and the fact that they have rentals for some really awesome rifles, the most popular CCW handguns, and some crazy stuff like the Barrett and I just noticed last night they have an FN45 with like a 6-7" suppressor on it for rent - LOL. Pretty easy to see why so many new shooters go there.

I have only personally heard of one accident resulting in injury ever occuring at this range and perhaps that is why they redesigned it with the thick walls. When I first moved here and first went to TNT, they had standard flimsy plastic walls like you see at typical indoor ranges.

Well I came across an article a number of years ago that said a new shooter set a loaded handgun down sideways instead of pointing out at the range. Very easy and simple mistake to make that most people don't think about. Well, one way or another the gun went off and hit someone a couple booths over in the leg. According to the article the victim recovered without ever entering a critical condition so thats good at least.
