Hey All.................

has anyone seen the pic of the Alabama National Guard sniper who terminated an Iraqi homicide bomber inside the Green Zone in Baghdad?

The pic has some very graphic results of what a well placed .50 will do to you if on the receiving end.

I'm hesitant to post the pic on the board, as it is very graphic. However, I'll send it out to those interested. No minors please.

Hello.

Could you send me the picture?

Any idea at what range it was, or what load was used?

Thanks!

The picture's out there on the Web.

The first picture in the sequence, however, has a very plainly visible KFOR on the vehicle behind the bearer of the Barrett .50 caliber rifle. Hmmm... :scrutiny:

Assuming it's the pic I think it is, it was posted earlier this week at the Roundtable. It was deleted by the topic creator just before a mod got to it. So yeah, a little too graphic.

Was this from Ogrish, or somewhere else? If it's the same one I've seen, it is indeed very graphic.

Viewer discretion strongly advised!

Head shot.

I haven't seen the pics, but if it was an up-armored HMMWV it could have just been transfered to Iraq and not repainted. We had quite a few up-armored when I was in Kosovo and from what I heard they were moving a lot of them from places where they weren't needed as badly to Iraq. Just a guess anyway, of course it could have been your typical internet pic that is something totally different than what it says :neener:

Yes I noticed the KFOR on the Humvee as well........however, the Soldier is no doubt US Army and it is a possibility that the terrain behind the vehicle is not consistent with the Baghdad area. I was thinking the pic was a file pic someone had to show who the sniper is but it isn't actually a pic from Iraq. I don't have the facts on that. It would explain though, the Humvee and possibly different terrain and we simply being supplied with a pic that shows the Soldier.

I haven't been supplied with range, ballistics, etc. and I have not been able to locate those various details on my own so far. If I do, I'll post.

Could you private message me the picture? Im interested in seeing it with all this talk.

Thanks!

Glock19........pm sent.

Hey All........I can't seem to get the pic to work using pm, so if you want a copy of it pm me an e-mail address and I'll get it sent out to you.

Thanks.

I thought the soldier looked an awful lot like RevDisk, but I'm not sure if it is and maybe I'm just imagining things. (You around, RevDisk?)

Ok guys.......I'll check my pm's and get the pics sent out in a few hours. Still at work and can't get to it just now.

I won't forget though.

Easy way to tell troops in Kosovo from troops in Iraq: in Kosovo, they wear woodland BDUs. In Iraq, they wear DCUs. DCUs are not currently in short supply, unlike desert colored body armor.

As far as the painting goes, when I was stationed in Germany (1-6 IN, 1st Armored Div, Baumholder) you could walk around post and see vehicles sporting IFOR, SFOR, and KFOR. The lettering wouldn't get painted over unless the whole vehicle got repainted. So the vehicle could have been sent to Iraq from Kosovo, or the unit in question might have done a tour in Kosovo and not had its vehicles repainted since then.

A buddy of mine had the kindness to email me a copy of this hoax. You can imagine my surprise at seeing my own mug being labeled a "sniper".

http://www.revdisk.net/hoax.html

I did not create this friggin hoax, and I am not enjoying the number of stupid emails I've been getting. I can't wait to track down the person that jacked my photo.

Since the image is so graphic, I won't post the exact link. But, snopes.com says it's a fake (unless you're talking about a different one). Look at the gore in the pic-it appears as though the victim was on the ground before he was injured (possibly run over by a vehicle).

Uhm, I'm the guy in the photo. It is a fake description. I'm just wondering why the heck someone would slap a KFOR photo on something that supposedly happened in Iraq.

Hey Rev........I told the people I got the pics from about your situation. I stopped sending your pic out as "the sniper" and if people want to see the dead terrorist, I just send that.

Psycospec........I don't think this guy was run over by a vehicle. Even if the pic turns out to be a "fake", he's still dead as hell nonetheless, it's still interesting to see and to me it doesn't look like he got that gulley in his head by a vehicle. There wouldn't be splatter like there is all around from him laying on the ground and getting crushed by a tire, especially with an "apparent" wound channel right in the top of his head. Plus, with all that blood and body matter, you would see a tire mark tracking it away from the body. There isn't any. It looks like he took some sort of hit and then fell back and bled, with all that gunk splattering on the ground when he hit.

You might be right, but it looks to me like it doesn't add up. I've seen a number of dead bodies in my day, from various means of getting dead.........I don't think this guy was run over. If it wasn't a high caliber, powerful projectile of some sort, I couldn't tell you what it was.

Whatever it was, it certainly made for an interesting pic and conversation.

I've seen it. While graphic I am not entirely sure it is a .50 cal wound or even a GSW. And this goes in with the other hoaxes we've seen.

Remember that one labeled as a sniper in Afghanistan with a .50 shooting insurgents that really ended up being, IIRC, someone in Wyoming shooting ground hogs or rock chucks with a hot .22 centerfire?

Plumbr7, you opened a thread that hadn't been touched in years to see a pic of a guy that had been shot in the face? On your first post too?

Well, welcome to THR I guess. You could probably just use google images to get that, by the way.
