$500 GP100 … but wait! - reimported, 1/2 lug, gutter sights, short barrel

I'm mostly a J-frame dude these days, but I still have an SP in .32 H&R that I don't plan to part with in this life.

It's wearing a hard plastic Hogue monogrip at present, but that could change -- personally I wish there was a classic Pachmayr Compac with the pinkie groove available for the SP101, preferably with the Hogue bottom screw retention system. I prefer that over the plainer version of the Compac they offer for this model.

I've tried 4 or 5 different grips (including Pachmayr Diamond Pro) on my SP101 357 and always went back to the Hogue like yours. They fit my XL hands perfectly, absorb recoil well, allow a more positive grip and are not pleasing to the eyes. For EDC, I like them a lot. YMMV

I've a grooveless Hogue on a Mountain Gun, and like it very much. No, they aren't eye candy, but they work.

Ordinarily I don't do finger grooves anymore because their spacing seldom fits my hands. They've become a kind of norm today, but I remember how cool the Pachmayr Gripper looked to me when it first came on the market. I had several grooved Pachmayrs and Hogues at one time, but I've since gravitated back to the plainer Presentation and Compac styles because they seem to provide me greater consistency.

My preference now is choosing a shape that works for my hands and then trying to get the same or similar grip styles on everything.

The Pachmayr Presentation grip is the most comfortable I've found for my Model 28-2. Good idea of yours to use the same style grip on multiple guns.

In todays economy I think you did ok Mark. You didn’t steal it and you weren’t ripped off. I’ve been trying to wear out a GP100 for over a decade now with a fairly steady diet of hot loads. It’s still going strong.

this was some overseas department service revolver. I think Canada?!?!?! always, some wear mark with light usage. Ready to see how SRONG Rugers GP100 is!!! Going MAX loads!

I’m starting to like Stainless for carry revolver. Easy to clean and don’t have to worry about buffing the finish
Also good for a "woods gun" in case you took a dunk in the stream, or had to spend the night under a poncho in the rain. One less thing to worry about. That's why I went with the stainless version of my EL Patron.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better one & $500 is a steal. Unless you live to be 100+ yrs old I don't believe you'd ever " shoot the frame out" of that gun. I love my SP101 but no fun to shoot hot 357s out of. The 3 inch GP100 handles them easily.View attachment 1176642
That's a mean looking unit. I like the bobbed hammer. My Security Six had an action job before I got it, and double action is smoother than butter. Or a baby's butt, or something like that. On my S&W with bobbed hammer, I can still cock it by lifting the hammer a little with the trigger, then pulling it back. Not ideal for single action shooting, but for that 75 yard "mall shot" it would suffice.

Nice find. If it was in a larger department of some kind, it was probably maintained. My LE turn-in revolvers have been some of my favorites.

I just wish the officer or agent put a little note behind the panel or something. Now the knowledge is loss to time :(

But will be popping it off today at the range! Range report SOON!
