the skull belonged to an Inca man who was likely involved in the 1536 siege of Lima
the killing nearly 500 years ago of what may have been the first gunshot victim in the Western Hemisphere.

The National Geographic is turning into the National Enquirer.

Cortes used firearms in the Conquest of Mexico, which was already over before Pizzaro invaded Peru. Pizzaro's men had used firearms much earlier as well, notably in the massacre at Cajamarca on November 16, 1532, when they captured Atahualpa.

Wasn't there a guy called Chris Columbus or something who fought with the Indians around Santo Domingo. Or am I mistaken? :uhoh:

You're mistaken. There was no Christopher Columbus. And there was no Herndado Cortes who supposedly conquered Mexico, fighting many battles with firearms in the process. And there was no battle fought at Cajamarca in Peru in 1532, where the Spaniards did not massacre the Inca Atahualpa's army and capture Atahualpa himself.:p

Thanks for clarifying that. I will have to get some of those revised history books you have been reading.

It's the latest research, written by Bullsh*t Belisles, who also wrote "The Arming of America," proving people didn't really have guns in America during the 18th and 19th Centuries.:D

misunderstanding

Tell me if I am wrong but I don't thing that they are saying that there wasn't anyone ever killed by a gun before this person but that this is the oldest in-tact remains with evidence of a gun shot wound.

If so it's clearly the fault of the NRA and the rest of the "gun lobby" for standing in the way of "reasonable" gun control.

I heard they found a bumper sticker there as well.

From what I heard it reads:

"GUNS DON"T KILL PEOPLE CONQUISTADORS DO"

Actually, it says, "GUNS DON"T KILL PEOPLE CONQUISTADORS WHO COME HOME FROM WORK EARLY DO" It's attributed to Quisquis the Cable Guy.

Come on guys, everyone know the first firearms were cheap "Sabado Noche Specials" that appeared in the hands of evil child killing market place robbers and youth gangs none of which needed these guns for hunting. :D

"the article says the victim was shot in the back of the head, clearly a mob hit"

Could the "victim" have been a Frenchman or Egyptian??????
Just asking,,,,,,,,,,

I think the correct spanish is "Noche sabado especial"
