They're trying to find the murder weapon so at least to me it is not unreasonable as to why the guns have been taken.Perhaps if his father didn't want his guns taken maybe he should have taught his son to not screw underage girls and kill their parents?

Hmmm, .40 S&W shell casings at the scene, do you think they took 54 .40 S&W caliber guns out of that house? Better yet, why not go check the neighbors guns why you are at it. Maybe the father gave permission. If it were me, I would say "go to hell". You are not taking my guns. What you are going to do is go find my son and lock him up before I find him.

I would think a kid who gets home schooled and goes to church probably knows better than to screw underage girls and kill their parents. Oh, but I forgot, modern liberal thinking blames someone other than the personal really responsible. Yes, it was the parents fault. In fact, when your 45 year old son does the same thing, they should come to your house and confiscate your guns since they are just looking for the murder weapon. :barf:

18yo having sex with a 14yo isnt underaged. Well not underanged enough to be illegal. Still, a parent should have a say over who their dependent children are having sex with. Not a controversial topic and not something that normally escalates to deadly violence. People talk a good game ("I'll bury you out back if you touch my daughter", etc) but usually the threats arent proximate to any sort of real violence. Mostly because guys know not to mess with other people's daughters. But I digress...

Teenagers having heated arguments with adults is normal. Even teenagers that have access to firearms. I got in lots of fights with my dad in my latter teen years. Even fights about guns (I wanted more, he didnt). Yet I never once went for a knife or a loaded gun! Not because I was afraid of going to jail, but because doing so would be completely nuts. Permanently killing someone because of some stupid emotional fight is the height of foolishness.

In any case, running off with your parent's guns is not legal, neither is shooting people, nor is kidnapping your girlfriend.

Who cares if he illegally borrowed the gun from his parents or whether he illegally got it from a crack dealer or from an adult acquaintance? Nothing he did is a valid justification for villifying law abiding gun owners. There is no additional law that would have made his unlawful and insane actions less harmful or less likely to occur. How much more illegal can you get then intentional homicide and kidnapping?

isn't it illegal in most states for someone under 21 to own a pistol or revolver anyways?
Uhm.... no. That might be the case in NJ, IL, MA, or CA, but I can't fathom any other state where that's the law. Even those backwards states might actually be in the right by "allowing" ownership by 18+ peoples.

The "21 for handguns" thing is a Federal issue, with FFLs not being allowed to sell to anybody unless they're 21. Private transfers to a 18+ but under 21 year old are prefectly legal.

Even in MI with our draconian "safety inspection" (aka registration) system in place you can own a handgun at 18. You just have to buy it from a private party.

More details:

More than 50 weapons — including three assault rifles, plus numerous shotguns, handguns, rifles, scopes and bullets — were confiscated from the Ludwig home on Sunday, according to court documents.

Among the list of guns listed in the court document were three AR-15 rifles, commonly known as assault rifles, which are the civilian version of the U.S. military-issued weapons.

Several of the rifles and shotguns, some pump-action, had scope attachments and were in cases.

Police, who also confiscated numerous rounds of ammunition, did not say where in the home the guns were found.

Many of the weapons were handguns, according to the list, including several .22 caliber and .38 caliber Smith & Wesson handguns, several 9 mm Ruger pistols, a Taurus .357 caliber and a Glock .45 caliber handgun.

Pretty ordinary collection for a family with that income, I'd say.

Pretty lame writeup by the reporter, though.

This is pretty typical press coverage after a murder and especially following one that has garnered national headlines. I read the article and my first reaction was "What does it matter if his parents are no licensed FFL holders or licensed collectors (also a FFL type license) for purchasing collector guns that are not for resale.

The press uses such things to paint a picture of the psychological makeup of a criminally charged citizen. I doubt that the 18-year old had 54 guns of his own, but he may have had easy access to them. 54 guns is actually a pretty substantial number of firearms for most people. An 18-year old can leagally purchase a handgun from an individual and can own the firearm in most states. However, in PA, all firearm transactions are required to be moved through a FFL now which would limit the 18-year olds ability to purchase (even from an individual).

I don't care much for this law or requirement as it is not typical in most states. (Even if it was typical, I would be against it.) If you mention this to many PA residents, they get offended and say something to the effect that you want to sell guns to criminals and that the law keeps criminals from private sale access. Of course, this is all a bunch of crap as it only limits the access to law abiding citizens to guns and adds another step (which costs money) to the process.

So now we have a hunter who likely committed murder. Young hunter comes from family who own many guns. Hey stupid? It is not the gun, it is the person that commits a crime. The gun is a tool.

OK PA residents, be ready. The antis are going to make a push to get liability laws for parents when their minor children get a hold of guns. We all know the kid was 18 and technically an adults, but the "simple facts" is that if we had some "common sense" legislation here, this whole thing could have been avoided. So be ready for a rash of lock up your guns and keep them hidden away unloaded laws.

Last night at some teacher training in the health curriculum one of their stats is that 1,200,000 latchkey kids come home to houses with guns in them. I said, "Yeah so?" Liberals.

Bingo! O'Reilly started his discussion on this with the 54 gun thing last night.

They don't have statuatory rape laws in Florida?

18 or 80, if you are having sex with my 14 year old daughter, then you had better worry about me killing you first. :fire:

Normally Nancy Grace is cute when she's mad, but when she
went off last night about the "automatic and semi-automatic"
weapons seized from the parents' house, plus the fact that one had
a collapsible bipod(!!), it made me glad she is now a TV talking
head and no longer a prosecutor.

She seemed to be more outraged over the description of
the "automatic and semi-automatic" assault rifles than she
was over the relatively ordinary pistol used in the murder,
or even over the murder itself.

The parents having a gun collection upset her more (by decibel
count) than the teenager murdering his girl friend's parents and
taking her "hostage"!!! When the teenage druggy goth murdered
the lawyer's wife with a piece of molding, she did not go
ballistic over the parents of the murderer having molding
at their house.

[Reminds me of the "perp photo" at the Weaver cabin: the
fourteen guns owned by seven members of a family laid out
for the news media to justify the government getting three
people killed over a missed court date on a first-time non-violent
misdemeanor gun charge.]

"numerous rounds of ammunition"?

What's that, more than a box of ammo per caliber or something?

What did Mr. O'Reilly have to say about it?

Someone's making be look bad, I think Cabela's is having a Christmas sale. :neener:

I was flipping through TV channels last night and heard Nancy Grace spewing about the guns. She went off the deep end when she heard MUZZLELOADER. She had no idea what a muzzleloader is, but immediately associated it with some terrible instrument of death. What an idiot!

She is nothing more than a rabblerouser that stirs up hate and dissent, and gets paid a lot of money to do it. If the common man on the street said the things she does, they would be arrested for inciting a riot.

Slurpy... I'm not guessing bud, I looked it up. Here's the law.

CRIMES AND OFFENSES (TITLE 18)
PART II. DEFINITION OF SPECIFIC OFFENSES.
CHAPTER 31. SEXUAL OFFENSES

Subchapter B. Definition Of Offenses

§ 3122.1. Statutory sexual assault.

Except as provided in section 3121 (relating to rape), a person commits a felony of the second degree when that person engages in sexual intercourse with a complainant under the age of 16 years and that person is four or more years older than the complainant and the complainant and the person are not married to each other.

Actually, this is an example of why limits on the number of guns one can own (as in some European countries) are pointless.

These laws actually do have a point, but the point has nothing to do with crime prevention or the general welfare. European governments abolished monarchy and nobility but they didnt abolish the old role of government in society. The pieces may have changed position, but they are still playing the same game.

Again proving that democracy isnt a silver bullet. As long as individual rights and autonomy are subject to the whims of other people, it does not matter whether those other people are moustachioed dictactors, a democratically elected body of legislators, nor the entire people themselves. The problem isnt one with a government provided solution- the solution is for individuals to become more self reliant and to demand less governent.

not morally correct, but legal

Yes, there's what's right, there's what's wrong, there's
what's legal and there's what's illegal, and more often
than not they are four different things. Sigh.
